BetOnSoft Plays a Winning Hand With Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and Fusion-io
Fusion ioMemory Optimizes New SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Delivering Rapid Failover, Real-Time Access and Improved Administration
SALT LAKE CITY, March 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Fusion-io (NYSE: FIO) today announced BetOnSoft, a leading global online gaming software provider, is accelerating its Microsoft SQL Server 2012 database to provide better experiences for its customers with Fusion's ioMemory platform. With SQL Server 2012 running on Fusion ioDrives, the BetOnSoft platform can perform player profiling, fraud detection, and marketing analysis in real-time, with applications taking immediate automated actions based on the results.
"The Fusion ioDrives allowed us to forego the data warehouse entirely, and implement real-time analysis on our primary online transaction processing system," said Thomas Pullen, BetOnSoft Database Administrator. "The ioDrives provide such significant performance that we were able to consolidate our OLTP database and a reporting warehouse service, running reports directly against our OLTP database without affecting the user experience."
BetOnSoft traffic doubled over the last year and the company recently delivered the one-billionth game played on its platform. The development team recently upgraded to SQL Server 2012 as part of the Microsoft Technology Adoption Program, powered by Fusion ioMemory to scale with expected growth without impacting user experience. The Fusion-io solution enabled BetOnSoft to reduce both planned and unplanned downtime, maximize application availability, and provide data protection using SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
BetOnSoft also reduced its CheckDB run-time, a database command that verifies data integrity, from four and a half hours to 25 minutes, a more than tenfold improvement. Pullen noted that he now runs CheckDB each week without affecting user experience to ensure the BenOnSoft database is corruption free. Backup run times were also reduced by nine times, from four hours to 25 minutes. Failover speeds also impressed the BetOnSoft team, as they set a bar of two minutes, and the actual failover took only 14 seconds. With the ioMemory solution, BetOnSoft also gained enough capacity and performance headroom to meet the demands of over ten times their current workload.
"When upgrading to SQL Server 2012, visionary professionals like the BetOnSoft team recognize how ioMemory complements the powerful features in Microsoft's newest version of SQL," said Mat Young, Fusion-io Technical Senior Director. "With ioMemory products, customers can add terabytes of persistent, high-performance memory per server to gain top performance from tempDB, log and index files. The cut-through architecture of ioMemory enables users to fully exploit new features like AlwaysOn Availability, without the need to add latency and expense through a legacy SAN architecture."

About Fusion-io
Fusion-io has pioneered a next generation storage memory platform for shared data decentralization that significantly improves the processing capabilities within a datacenter by relocating process-critical, or "active", data from centralized storage to the server where it is being processed, a methodology referred to as data decentralization. Fusion's integrated hardware and software solutions leverage non-volatile memory to significantly increase datacenter efficiency and offers enterprise grade performance, reliability, availability and manageability. Fusion's data decentralization platform can transform legacy architectures into next generation datacenters and allows enterprises to consolidate or significantly reduce complex and expensive high performance storage, high performance networking and memory-rich servers. Fusion's platform enables enterprises to increase the utilization, performance and efficiency of their datacenter resources and extract greater value from their information assets.
