Bethesda Health Clinic Utilizes Donated MedInformatix EHR for Nine Years
Organization Offers Low-Cost Medical Services to Uninsured Working Adults
Utilizes E-Prescribing and Lab Testing Modules with EHR
TYLER, Texas, Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bethesda Health Clinic, a faith-based medical facility located in Tyler, Texas, provides complete medical care for uninsured adults through a volunteer network of 285 primary care physicians and 85 nurses. It manages approximately 15,000 patient visits per year and has more than 3,000 unduplicated patients.
Due to the nature of the organization, Bethesda Health Clinic relies on a large number of volunteers to manage patient visits and records. These volunteers change frequently, and new volunteers must be trained on the MedInformatix solution in order to keep the clinic running at peak efficiency. MedInformatix's solution is intuitive and friendly for even non-technical users and allows Bethesda Health Clinic to serve patients and management information without interruptions. The clinic also instituted several modules over the past nine years, including a seamless link to lab testing and earlier this year the e-prescribing module was included.
"We began using MedInformatix just a month after we opened in 2003," said Dr. John English, CEO and Medical Director at the Bethesda Health Clinic. "They graciously donated their platform and continue to provide us with exemplary service and customizations as needed. It was simple to use right out of the gate and has allowed our volunteers to learn the system quickly and make an immediate contribution"
The clinic's billing does not route through insurance, it uses pre-defined nominal copays to collect payment. This unique structure required MedInformatix to custom build the billing component to fit the clinic's needs. "During our nearly 10-year relationship with MedInformatix we have found their support to be exemplary," continued Dr. English. "Our unique practice required several platform customizations at our initial setup, and MedInformatix has always been responsive to our needs in a timely and efficient manner. As we continue to serve more patients and occasionally need assistance, MedInformatix's well-trained staff are able to quickly identify and manage any of our concerns."
The clinic utilizes MedInformatix for the tracking of various metrics that help them to monitor internal processes, obtain possible grants, and to also detect patients that might need additional attention. The clinic will run reports that examine how their controls are performing, with data showcasing the number of patients with high blood pressure, or highlighting those who are on specific medicine. For example, the clinic aids many diabetic patients and has flags setup within the system that raise when one of those patients has not visited the clinic after a certain amount of time.
Bethesda Health Clinic is scheduled to complete an upgrade to MedInformatix' V7.5, the company's newest ONC-certified version which features several new enhancements.
