Bestnet Announces the Grand Opening of Their New Netprotect® LLIN Manufacturing Facility in Nairobi, Kenya
KOLDING, Denmark, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bestnet A/S announced today that it will be hosting a gala reception on November 3, 2011 in celebration of the grand opening of the project to set up a full-scale Netprotect® Long Lasting Insecticide Incorporated Mosquito Net (LLIN) manufacturing facility at Vector Solutions Ltd. in Nairobi, Kenya. The project represents a truly historic event as it is the very first manufacturing facility in Kenya to produce World Health Organization (WHOPES) recommended LLINs.
The reception is being jointly hosted by Bestnet senior management, the management and staff of Vector Solutions, and key personnel from Joh Achelis & Sohne GmbH (Bestnet's agent in Kenya). Honored guests at the gala reception will include government dignitaries, local customers and technical partners, and representatives from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
"Bestnet is committed to capacity building throughout the world, and is particularly pleased that this new manufacturing facility will enable us to continue to expand our manufacturing operations in sub-Saharan Africa," said Torben Holm Larsen, Bestnet Director of Production & Supply Chain. He continued, "In cooperation with Vector Solutions Ltd., we are not only establishing a full-scale facility in Kenya that will produce 1.2 million Netprotect® LLINs per year, but creating employment opportunities."
According to Michael Oddenyo of Vector Solutions Ltd. and the General Manager of this manufacturing site, "Our new facility, which consists of 5000 square meters, will scale up to full production capacity early in Q1 of 2012. This will result in the creation of over 150 new jobs within the local community."
Bestnet recognizes that capacity building must not only create jobs, but also ensure that employees are provided with opportunities to learn new skills and be exposed to good business practices. Therefore, Bestnet provides extensive training of all staff through the Bestnet Academy. "The Bestnet Academy uses both internal and external experts to individually train relevant staff for a period of about 3 months. The Academy includes theory and practical work in both production and at the lab," said Marcus Sorensen, Bestnet Corporate Quality Manager. "In addition, Bestnet utilizes one of the most stringent Quality Control Systems used worldwide, Six Sigma Methodology, which focuses intensely on product and process improvement. All components of the Bestnet Quality System are designed to ensure that our customers are consistently provided with high-quality product, at the right time and at the right price," said Sorensen.
The reception will celebrate the combined efforts of the many partners and technical collaborators that will cooperate to successfully establish the first and only facility in Kenya that manufactures WHOPES recommended LLINs.
