Bertram Capital Partner Kevin Yamashita Wins Dealmaker Of The Year Award
Yamashita Recognized as Top Dealmaker at ACG New York's Champion Awards
SAN MATEO, Calif., July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Kevin Yamashita, Partner at Bertram Capital, was recognized at the third annual ACG New York Champions Awards as the 2013 "Dealmaker of the Year." Mr. Yamashita was honored at a black tie awards gala at the Metropolitan Club in NYC on Thursday, June 20th. Sponsored by ACG New York and The M&A Advisor, the ACG Champions Awards recognizes companies, individual dealmakers and transactions in the middle market mergers and acquisitions industry in the greater New York area. An independent body of experts representing a cross-section of the middle market industry selected the winning deals and dealmakers from among finalists.
"Kevin Yamashita is a key reason Bertram Capital has differentiated itself in the private equity community," said Jeff Drazan, Managing Partner. "Kevin embodies what it takes to be a successful private equity investor: strong leadership, savvy deal-making, integrity and reliable stewardship of our limited partners' investment in our funds. The entire Bertram team is extremely proud of Kevin's well-deserved recognition as Dealmaker of the Year."
As a Partner at Bertram Capital, Mr. Yamashita oversees all investments in the Industrial and Manufacturing sectors. Since joining Bertram Capital in May 2007, Yamashita has successfully exited two portfolio companies and completed four platform and five add-on acquisitions. The cross-border sale of PDI to Smiths Group (SMIN) in October 2011 for $235M was the firm's first exit and showcased Bertram Capital's buy and build approach, growing the business more than 4x in fewer than five years. Following the sale of PDI, Mr. Yamashita led the $200M sale of Extrusion Dies Industries to Nordson Corporation (NDSN) in June 2012 after growing the business over 40% in less than 18 months. The four platform company investments made by Mr. Yamashita are Power Distribution Inc., TydenBrooks, Extrusion Dies Industries and Webex. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for TydenBrooks and Webex.
"Kevin Yamashita continues to set the bar for leading M&A professionals," stated David Fergusson, President of The M&A Advisor. "We are honored to present Kevin Yamashita with the 2013 Dealmaker of The Year Award for his leadership in the purchase and sale of portfolio companies at Bertram Capital. And equally important, we honor Kevin's contributions as a volunteer in his community."
Prior to Bertram Capital, Mr. Yamashita worked for TPG Capital, participating in notable transactions for Burger King, Petco, and Beringer Wine. He also worked at private equity firms Calera Capital and Yucaipa Companies, and began his career in investment banking with Salomon Smith Barney. He graduated summa cum laude from UCLA.
In addition to his busy work schedule, Yamashita serves on the board of Blue Oaks Community Church and was one of its founding members. He has been involved with a number of charities and non-profit organizations including Alameda Food Bank, Valencia 826, and Tierra del Sol Foundation.
