Bersin by Deloitte: Marriott International Emerges as the Ultimate Award Recipient in the 2015 WhatWorks® Award Program
Finalists including Autotrader, Kettering Health Network, Rite-Solutions and T-Mobile highlighted programs to acquire, train, engage and retain employees, develop leaders; and transform human resource organizations
OAKLAND, Calif., June 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bersin by Deloitte today announced Marriott International, a global travel company, as the ultimate award recipient of the 2015 WhatWorks® Award Program for Voyage, an innovative program designed to attract top talent through targeted recruiting, training and the use of virtual technologies. Results of the WhatWorks Award Program, which recognizes innovation and excellence across the critical areas of high-impact HR, learning and talent, were announced April 30 at Bersin by Deloitte's annual research conference, IMPACT 2015, at the Trump National Doral resort in Miami, Florida.
Marriott International was among five top contenders that presented their achievements in a special session with IMPACT 2015 conference attendees. Marriott International and the additional finalists, which included Autotrader, Kettering Health Network, Rite-Solutions and T-Mobile, focused on programs to acquire, train, engage and retain top talent, develop leaders, optimize and transform human resource organizations to drive business innovation and growth. Bersin by Deloitte analysts were joined by other industry leaders in choosing the finalists. HR professionals attending the special session voted to choose the ultimate award recipient. Marriott International and the other finalists are featured in the print and digital versions of Human Resource Executive® magazine's first June edition.
"Marriott International with its Voyage program prevailed over more than 100 competitors to take the top spot in this year's program," said David Mallon, head of Research, Bersin by Deloitte, Deloitte Consulting LLP. "With its entry in the category of Acquiring Top Talent, Marriott was recognized for developing a program that creates a highly trained pipeline of entry-level leaders while providing a globally consistent and enriching experience for the company's next generation of leaders. This year's leading WhatWorks Award Program entries in all categories showcased inventive and pragmatic solutions to real challenges in a world of work that continues to grow and change. This is especially the case in the areas of attracting, developing, engaging and retaining top talent with skills essential to drive agility, innovation and competitive advantage."
Marriott International's Voyage program works to attract top talent through three strategic areas: continent- specific partnerships and targeted recruiting from top universities; a comprehensive and unique program curriculum; and the use of virtual technologies that enable participants to network and learn from each other as well as from mentors and Marriott executives.
"We are honored that our Voyage program has received this recognition," said David Traina, vice president, Global Talent Acquisition, Marriott International. "Since its inception in 2013, more than 900 Voyagers have been hired into the organization in 37 countries worldwide. Participant feedback helps us to develop and launch new technologies each year."
The additional WhatWorks categories and finalists include:
Developing Tomorrow's Leaders: T-Mobile finished first for creating a program to identify and accelerate the development of next-generation leaders. At current enrollment rates, the program within three years will increase T-Mobile's succession pool by 24 mobile general executives. The potential savings in talent acquisition costs for these executives could exceed $7 million when factoring in compensation, acquisition and related costs.
Enabling High-Impact Learning: Autotrader, part of Cox Automotive, finished first for a fully mobile innovative training initiative that combined manager coaching and learning technologies, including gamification, to create a better product learning strategy. The new program reduced the average time for a product launch by more than 70 percent, and saved more than $1 million in training costs compared with previous launches.
Optimizing Talent Management: Kettering Health Network finished first for revising its vision, processes and technologies to implement an integrated talent management approach to operating its network of more than 11,000 employees and 2,100 physicians. The Nursing Human Resources team learned that staff competency was an essential factor in employee retention and engagement, leadership development and patient-care excellence. Armed with this information, the Nursing Human Resources team made a strategic decision to have staff competency drive talent management.
Transforming HR: Rite-Solutions finished first for creating an online innovation engine that uses a gaming strategy to help its employees create and collaborate on ideas for new products, improve internal processes, enhance customer service and drive technological change. Rewards and recognition are offered for the top ideas/players. The design of the application allows employees at all levels to introduce new ideas and engage in the evaluation of ideas created by fellow employees. One employee's idea, built upon by others, led to the company winning a multimillion-dollar contract with a government agency in 2014.
WhatWorks Award Program-related activities will include public webinars featuring specific HR, training and talent management topic areas and leaders.
