Behringer to Support First Project REAP Class in Dallas Beginning September 9
REAP Seeks to Link Minority Talent to the Commercial Real Estate Industry
DALLAS, May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Project REAP (Real Estate Associate Program), the industry's leading effort to link minorities to commercial real estate companies, is coming to Dallas beginning September 9. REAP will conduct a 10-week, 20-class course taught by the region's industry leaders. Behringer will support this effort by providing meeting facilities for the class and experts to serve among the faculty for the course.
"We are pleased to host the first course offered by REAP in Dallas," said Robert Aisner, President and CEO of Behringer. "Many of us have found fulfilling careers in commercial real estate, and we are happy to have this opportunity to pay it forward. Helping others enter this extraordinary profession promises to be a very rewarding experience."
After establishing footholds in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, DC and Cleveland, REAP is making its first entry into the Southwest. "REAP has long wanted to enter the Dallas market due to its explosive growth and numerous opportunities," said Gregg McCort, REAP's executive director. "The ability to shorten the line between the market's base of talented minority professionals and companies looking for that talent is REAP's strength. It is my hope that the industry at large supports this program and benefits from it accordingly."
Behringer is joining executives from local companies including CBRE, Howard Hughes Corporation, Emmitt Smith Legacy and Duke Realty who are planning the program along with executives from the local Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA); NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association; Urban Land Institute (ULI) and Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) chapters.
REAP is sponsored nationally by Walmart Realty, McDonald's and American Express and supported by the International Council of Shopping Centers, ULI, BOMA, NAIOP and the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC).
Applications for REAP Dallas open June 9 at projectreap.org. Applicants must have a four-year degree and three to five years of professional work experience post-college. Beginning September 9, classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Behringer, 15601 Dallas Parkway. Topics range from market analysis, financial analysis and site selection to development, leasing and brokerage.
All applicants will be screened and finalists selected for interviews to determine the final class. Tuition for those chosen is $500. Real estate experience is not necessary for selection, as REAP seeks to identify candidates from across a wide spectrum of disciplines interested in a career in commercial real estate.
REAP is a 501(c)(3) corporation headquartered in New York City.
