BeEdison® and S&P Capital IQ Launch Private Co Credit Assessment Product
Unlocking Investment Scale for the US Solar Asset Class
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BeEdison, a leading provider of investment risk assessment software and diligence services to the renewable energy industry, and S&P Capital IQ, a leading provider of financial research, data and analytics, jointly announced today the launch of a co-branded credit assessment service tailored for the global renewable energy industry. The partnership, which began extensive market testing for the US commercial solar segment in July, leverages the expertise of beEdison and S&P Capital IQ to provide a tiered market offering that represents industry best practice.
Solar power provides less than 1% of US electricity needs today, leaving a lot of room for industry growth. Unlocking that growth, however, has been a challenge. Almost 95% of commercial real-estate owners and tenants, the same potential solar electricity customers, are private, unrated credit entities. Without a reliable and efficient approach to assessing private company credit, transaction costs and credit uncertainty remain key obstacles.
BeEdison and S&P Capital IQ have identified these market problems and the opportunity they present. The firms have joined forces to deliver a solution – bringing transparency and risk mitigation to primary market transactions while laying a solid foundation for solar asset portfolio securitization.
"Productizing risk assessment for complex asset classes is what we do best," said Chase Weir, Co-chairman of beEdison. "Our collaborative work with S&P Capital IQ is a natural extension into private company credit and probabilities of default. We are delighted to be working with such esteemed counterparts."
The co-branded service directly addresses the main obstacles to faster deployment of solar technology, and provides investors and developers with better information for decision making purposes. BeEdison and S&P Capital IQ expect the service will reduce diligence costs and ultimately streamline the securitization process for solar asset portfolios.
Enabling faster growth in the solar asset secondary market is a key objective. Investors and developer-owners who use this co-branded service will find themselves in a much better position to monetize aggregated assets.
