Barneys New York Will Donate Percentage of Sales to 9/11 Memorial Fund on Fashion's Night Out
NEW YORK, Aug. 15 , 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Barneys New York, the luxury department store, announced today that it will be participating in Fashions Night Out on September 8th by donating 10% of Barneys' Madison Avenue flagship store's sales and 10% of Barneys.com sales from the entire day and evening to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks and Barneys New York will commemorate this significant date through a donation to this worthy cause.
As a New York based retailer with its roots in the city, Barneys New York feels it is essential to focus its Fashions Night Out efforts this year on marking this historic date. The retailer will offer extended hours for Fashion's Night out from 10 AM to 10 PM to ensure all customers have the opportunity to shop and raise significant money for the memorial and museum.
Mark Lee Chief Executive Officer of Barneys New York said, "Whereas during the last two Fashion's Night Out events Barneys New York led with innovative entertainment and designer participation in activities such as karaoke, musical chairs and ping pong, we want this year to refocus all of our efforts on the shopping experience which was the original impetus for Fashion's Night Out and in turn raise the highest possible donation for this worthy cause on this solemn anniversary. We invite all of our customers, designers, vendors and business partners to participate."
The Barneys New York donation will contribute to developing and sustaining the National September 11 Memorial & Museum the not-for-profit organization created to oversee the design, raise the funds, and operate the Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.
"We are grateful to Barneys New York for its commitment to the 9/11 Memorial," said Joe Daniels, 9/11 Memorial President. "Their support and the support of so many others around the world gives people everywhere a lasting place for remembrance, reflection and learning for years to come."
The Memorial will be dedicated on Sept. 11, 2011, in a commemoration ceremony for family members of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, and Feb. 26, 1993 attacks. The Memorial opens to the general public the following day on Sept. 12, 2011 to visitors who reserved a free pass at 911memorial.org.
About The National September 11 Memorial & Museum
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is the not-for-profit corporation created to oversee the design, fundraising, programming, and operations of the Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. The Memorial and Museum will be located on eight of the 16 acres of the World Trade Center site. The Memorial will be dedicated on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and will open to the public the following day, and the Museum will open in September 2012. The Memorial will remember and honor the 2,983 people who were killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two reflecting pools formed in the footprints of the original Twin Towers and a plaza of trees. The Museum will display monumental artifacts linked to the events of 9/11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning, and recovery that are central to telling the story of the 2001 and 1993 attacks and the aftermath. It will communicate key messages that embrace both the specificity and the universal implications of the events of 9/11; document the impact of those events on individual lives, as well as on local, national, and international communities; and explore the continuing significance of these events for our global community. When the Memorial opens, construction will continue on surrounding World Trade Center projects and free visitor passes will be temporarily required.
