DAVIE, Fla., Dec. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Each holiday season, The Salvation Army works with local businesses, churches and schools to collect gifts for needy children and teens that otherwise may not receive any presents for the holidays. Bankers Healthcare Group, the leading provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals, supported Angel Tree again this year by donating more than 275 gifts to The Salvation Army in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Syracuse, New York.
"Our team loved the opportunity to give gifts to brighten the holidays for children in our community," said BHG President Bob Castro. "I'm excited to see the Angel Tree program grow to become an annual tradition here at BHG."
The company's Angel Tree tradition started last year when BHG Funding Coordinator Dawn Hart and Funding Manager Jennifer Nino decided that instead of coordinating the usual company gift exchange, they would put their efforts to better use by giving gifts to local families in need. "We decided on The Salvation Army Angel Tree because we thought that providing for our community and its children in need was more important than getting each other gifts," said Hart. Under their leadership, BHG's employees collectively donated 116 new toys in Fort Lauderdale last year.
The Salvation Army Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors. Angel Trees can be found in the lobbies of many organizations, decorated with angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child in need. Individual donors can take one or more tags from the tree and purchase gifts for the child or children described on the tags.
"We thank corporations and individual donors for helping bring a smile to many needy children at Christmas time," said Major Keath Biggers, Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Broward County. "The Angel Tree program is one that is very personal and we are so very grateful to those individuals and businesses who help support their neighbors in such a loving and kind way."
