Bahrain's National Commission Meets to Discuss BICI Recommendations
MANAMA, Bahrain, Dec. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bahrain's national commission charged with implementing recommendations from the Bahrain Independent Commission Inquiry (BICI) report will look into the cases of dismissed workers and students.
The commission, chaired by Bahrain's Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh, met for the first time yesterday at the Shaikh Isa Cultural Center to discuss next steps in regards to the BICI report recommendations.
Chairman Al Saleh noted in a statement to Bahrain News Agency that he hopes the work of the commission will usher in a new era for Bahrain and will help pave the way for national reconciliation.
The Chairman is mandated to take necessary steps to ensure workers were not let go after exercising their rights of expression, opinion, assembling or forming political associations. Additionally, the Chairman will work to ensure that all cases of dismissed private sector employees are treated the same as government employees.
The commission is also working to see that dismissed students who have not been charged in court will be reinstated.
During the meeting, the commission considered ways to work with various governmental departments to speed up the implementation process.
