BELLEVUE, Wash., Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Adaptiva, a leading provider of add-ons for Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), today announced that Babcock International Group PLC (LSE: BAB) has selected Adaptiva OneSite software for global deployment. Babcock, the UK's leading engineering support services organization with revenue of over £3.5bn in 2014, will deploy OneSite on over 20,000 computer systems at over 250 operating facilities worldwide.
Babcock anticipates numerous benefits from the OneSite deployment, and identifies the biggest gain as coming from Adaptiva's predictive bandwidth harvesting WAN technology. Previously, Babcock sent systems content, such as 8GB images, after hours to avoid impacting critical business traffic on the WAN. Now, it can safely send any size data packages during peak business hours.
"OneSite changes the way we think about content delivery," said Rob Cann, SCCM & Packaging Team Leader, Babcock. "We can now distribute extremely large payloads on the WAN in the middle of a weekday with absolutely no worry about hammering the network or upsetting our network team."
In addition to improving WAN performance, Babcock chose OneSite for its peer-to-peer storage technology, which aggregates unused disk space from peer computer systems into a self-managing virtual SAN at each facility. Administrators can spend a great deal of time isolating and resolving content delivery failures when caused by a server issue such as hard disk full on one of Babcock's 120 distribution points. With OneSite, Babcock now has serverless storage that self-organizes, maintains multiple copies, and pre-stages large content intelligently.
"With OneSite, we instantly get redundant storage measured in petabytes, and that number is growing all the time," said Mat Luscombe, Client Technical Architect, Babcock. "It takes no space away from peer systems and has virtually zero impact. The users don't even notice it."
Babcock sees OneSite as a stage-setter for an easier migration from its current SCCM 2007 implementation to SCCM 2012, a time-consuming undertaking in a traditional architecture. The London-based firm also welcomes OneSite's enterprise operating system deployment (OSD) capabilities. OneSite removes the need to configure PXE servers at each site, one of the largest impediments to performing large-scale, unattended Windows migrations.
"Babcock performed an impressive evaluation, completing an extremely thorough proof of concept," said Deepak Kumar, founder and CTO, Adaptiva. "Their selection of Adaptiva proves that even if a company has a worldwide server infrastructure in place, OneSite still offers tremendous benefits in easier administration, better WAN traffic management, and a host of other enhancements to SCCM."
