AZZ Galvanizing Services Wins Five Industry Awards Including Highest Honor - "Most Distinguished" at 2015 Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards
FORT WORTH, Texas, May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- AZZ incorporated (NYSE:AZZ), a global provider of galvanizing services, welding solutions, specialty electrical equipment and highly engineered services, today announced that AZZ Galvanizing Services won "Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing," awards in five categories - out of 14 – including the highest honor awarded, "Most Distinguished." The American Galvanizers Association (AGA), a leading trade association in the galvanizing industry, presented the awards.
The Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards recognizes the special skill and efforts of galvanizers, fabricators, architects, engineers, contractors, and all other parties as they complete projects that will remain durable, beautiful, and maintenance-free for generations to come. AZZ Galvanizing Services competed against more than 60 projects representing hot-dip galvanizing's versatility. The annual awards are presented to projects that utilize hot-dip galvanizing in an ideal, creative, innovative or monumental fashion. All submissions were judged online by a panel of architects and engineers.
"AZZ Galvanizing is honored to have participated in the projects that have been recognized with these awards," said Joe Langemeier, Vice President of Sales & Marketing of AZZ Galvanizing Services. "The architects, engineers, fabricators and contractors that conceived, designed, built and erected these structures deserve the accolades. In the end, it is the owners and users that benefit from the decision to utilize hot-dip galvanizing to protect these projects from corrosion. We look forward to submitting more unique projects for next year's competition."
The highest honor presented is the Excellence Award for the "Most Distinguished." AZZ Galvanizing Services - Jackson was recognized as "Most Distinguished" for its work at The Lazy Magnolia Brewery in Kiln, MS. The owners' specified hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel for the building expansion because of its cost effectiveness and durability under harsh conditions at the brewery. Lazy Magnolia is dedicated to providing the best possible products, and selecting the most cost-effective corrosion protection, hot-dip galvanizing was the correct solution. Steam and changing pH levels required a degree of protection only HDG could provide.
AZZ Galvanizing Services - Denver is the proud winner of the "Original Equipment Manufacturing" Excellence Award for the use of hot-dip galvanized steel throughout The Cherry Creek Systems Facility in Denver, CO. Greenhouse customers and environmental conscientiousness often go hand-in-hand, which made Cherry Creek Systems' choice of a galvanized coating for its greenhouses an easy decision. Cherry Creek Systems' founder Arie Van Wingerden said, "The galvanized coating was the perfect choice because of its 100% recyclability, making this an earth-friendly solution for corrosion protection, as well as helping out Cherry Creek Systems' bottom line because of its low lifecycle cost."
AGA's "Food & Agriculture" award was earned by AZZ Galvanizing Services - Peoria for galvanizing more than 150,000 lbs. of steel to construct The Petone Elevator in Petone, IL. Hot-dip galvanized steel was selected to protect the catwalks, bucket elevator and all angle iron used for the project. Hot-dip galvanizing provides abrasion resistance, a common issue with agriculture structures. For this reason and many others, the agricultural community prefers hot-dip galvanized steel.
Winning the "Duplex Systems" award was AZZ Galvanizing Services - Jackson for work on The Point Cadet Pavilion in Biloxi, MS. The open air pavilion is built on the site of a Coast Guard seaplane hangar that was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and is built in a similar shape. The pavilion hosts family events, symphonies, crawfish boils, and other special events for the community. The combination of paint over galvanized steel on the project's tube columns and rolled trusses was used to extend the life of the project 1.5 times or more – making hot-dip galvanizing and paint the logical choice. The dual-coating will provide unmatched corrosion protection and beauty for the Pavilion for generations.
Another award winner displaying the more amusing, creative side of hot-dip galvanized steel was AZZ Galvanizing Services - Arizona for its work on The Praying Mantis Sculpture displayed in Black Rock Desert, NV which took home the "Artistic" award. The Praying Mantis Sculpture was created for the Burning Man Festival that has quickly grown into an iconic, annual event that celebrates individual uniqueness of the human spirit and boasts a net zero impact on the environment. The sculpture's artist, Heather Dessel, utilized HDG after learning the galvanizing process is green which fits with one of the festivals' key 10 principles, leaving no trace and recyclability. The sculpture highlights the versatility of hot-dip galvanizing used in amusing, creative and innovative ways.
