Awareness Technologies Aids Federal Agencies in Addressing WikiLeaks Memorandum Directives
InterGuard Solution Addresses Key Mandates Required of Federal Agencies to Ensure Security of Classified Information
LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In the wake of the massive WikiLeaks disclosure of sensitive government information, Awareness Technologies Inc. today announced that its InterGuard software suite has been assisting federal agencies for several years in addressing many of the key elements of the security directives and assessment questions outlined in two recent memorandums issued by the Office Of Management and Budget (OMB) in November 2010 and January 2011.
As depicted in the OMB Memorandum M-11-06 (WikiLeaks-Mishandling of Classified Information) and in OMB Memorandum M-11-08 (Initial Assessments of Safeguarding and Counterintelligence Postures for Classified National Security Information in Automated Systems), federal agencies are required to protect classified information and prevent any unauthorized disclosure that could compromise national security. As part of this activity, agencies are obligated to evaluate current security practices and configuration of classified government systems, and ensure proper access is given to users based on their roles.
"In the day and age of WikiLeaks, governmental agencies face ever-increasing pressure to ensure the protection of classified information with their existing resources," said Ron Penna, Chief Strategy Officer of Awareness Technologies. "Events such as the recent posting of significant amounts of sensitive information through WikiLeaks can be averted through the use of proper Internal Threat Protection technology. InterGuard is a powerful addition that federal organizations can add to their cyber-arsenals to directly address information security policies as well as the directives outlined in the memos issued by the Federal Government."
InterGuard covers the five main areas of Internal Threat Protection concerns within an enterprise to directly address the inadvertent as well as malicious insider threats at the root of the WikiLeaks debacle and similar scenarios including Web Activity Monitoring, Employee Communications and Applications Monitoring, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Mobile Device Monitoring and Laptop Recovery along with complete, advanced forensics capabilities.
Developed for the international Intelligence Community (IC) and Law Enforcement agencies, InterGuard uses state-of-the-art endpoint architecture that monitors all activity on computer and smartphone devices on and off the network, allowing the ability to prevent confidential data from leaving the organization via removeable media, webmail and other unsecure websites. Additionally, InterGuard allows federal agencies and organizations to conduct discovery scans for improperly saved confidential data on and off the network. All information collected from every device is transmitted securely and made available for analysis and reporting within a centralized dashboard.
