Auto-Filling Your Shopping Cart: The Fastest Way to a Consumer's Wallet
Wish lists are hashtagging their way into online conversations
ST. LOUIS, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The phenomenon of shopping for gifts and rapidly moving to checkout has taken on new velocity this holiday season, reports digital ad agency, Moosylvania.
To help visualize the sheer volume and diversity of activity flowing through Twitter, Moosylvania used its newly conceived social integration tool, PostPogo, to aggregate data and see what products are heading down the checkout aisle in real time. The tool collected data amassed by Amazon shoppers who had linked their Twitter and Amazon accounts (http://www.amazon.com/gp/socialmedia/amazoncart).
"New functionality like Amazon's Twitter-enabled Cart and Wish List programs are a great example of where the world of eCommerce is moving," said Norty Cohen, founder and CEO of Moosylvania. "This is a frictionless experience that we believe will become the expectation of shoppers going forward. Social commerce is easy and may at some point make shopping at the mall look a lot like dial-up internet. As marketers, we need to be aware that influencers have a lot of tools at their disposal and this one is ripe for the picking and, perhaps, the ultimate shopping experience."
As part of the Amazon program, every time a consumer sends a message with the hashtag #AmazonCart or #AmazonWishList, the linked product is added to his or her Cart or Wish List, respectively, accelerating the purchasing process. Consumers receiving product tweets in their Twitter timelines have the option to retweet, populate their carts, and purchase items either later or on-the-spot. The ultimate benefit is that consumers do not need to leave their social feed to save a product for later.
Thus far, PostPogo has collected more than 150,000 Amazon-posted items – ranging in price from $1 to $495,000. Everything from Botox injection kits, women's stretch pants and Dr. Seuss's Wacky Book of Opposites to Rolex watches and the famed oil painting, The Dockside Liverpool at Night, were fair game. If all the items mentioned in the tweets were laid side by side, they would stretch the length of 14,070 shopping mall Santas or 1,111 Rockefeller Center Christmas trees. A list of the more unusual and most popular products appears in a real-time tally at http://moosylvania.com/wishlist-watcher/.
Cohen said PostPogo provides a variety of marketing and promotional functions for marketers and their brands.
