Aurora Charter Oak and Aurora Las Encinas Top Performer Hospitals
Two of seven California psychiatric hospitals selected
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Two behavioral health facilities located in Los Angeles County have been named Top Performers for hospital-based inpatient psychiatric care by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Aurora Charter Oak Hospital, located in Covina, and Aurora Las Encinas Hospital, located in Pasadena, each received recognition for their performance on key quality measures achieved during 2012.
Only seven psychiatric facilities in California are ranked as a Top Performer in The Joint Commission's Annual Report on Quality and Safety. Hospitals receiving Top Performer designation must achieve a performance rate of 95 percent or more for each measure.
"We understand that what matters most to patients at any hospital is safe, effective care," says Todd Smith, CEO of Charter Oak Hospital. "Both of our facilities also have long-standing commitments to the accreditation process and to positive patient outcomes," adds Jerry Conway, CEO of Las Encinas Hospital.
Both CEOs praised the work of the independent psychiatrists and hospital employees who provide daily treatment for the patients at each facility. "We have some of the top-ranked psychiatrists in Southern California at our two hospitals," notes Conway. "Our nurses, social workers, therapists and other employees all do a tremendous job providing the highest level of care," adds Smith.
The Joint Commission report recognizes hospitals for "their exemplary performance in providing evidence-based interventions in the right way and at the right time." Psychiatric hospital rankings were based on the following measures:
- Justification for administering multiple anti-psychotic medications
- Ratios for use of restraints and seclusion
- Creation and transmission of continuing care plans
"Aurora Charter Oak, Aurora Las Encinas and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement," says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission.
The Joint Commission is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization which accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care programs in the United States. The Joint Commission works to support its accredited hospitals in improving health care quality performance.
Aurora Charter Oak Hospital and Aurora Las Encinas Hospital offer a wide range of behavioral health care services, specializing in the treatment of psychiatric and chemical dependency issues. Both hospitals offer a variety of inpatient and outpatient treatment programs including inpatient detox, rehab, residential treatment and intensive outpatient therapy.
