LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As home to more than 10,000 mothers across the U.S. and Canada, Atria Senior Living's employees have a pretty good idea what a lot of moms want for Mother's Day – and it isn't another hanging plant.
It's time with the people they love. That's why Atria, an operator of senior living communities, has launched a series of events that make it easy for family members and others to give "Gifts of Time."
To celebrate all of their mothers, each Atria community will host a weeklong celebration of free events designed to enlighten the mind, delight the spirit and, most importantly, foster a deeper connection between moms and their adult children. The events take place May 7-14 and are open to Atria residents, their families and the general public.
Last year for Mother's Day, Atria created an award-winning social media campaign and video that cleverly inverted the concept of adolescent "mom jokes" and traded put-downs for uplifting comments. The campaign, "Yo Mama Compliments," tied social media activity to a charitable donation to Every Mother Counts, a global nonprofit dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for mothers around the world. The video garnered more than 350,000 views and more than 1,300 shares, prompting Atria to donate $10,000 to the organization.
This year, in addition to local events, Atria will host a Facebook contest where participants will share ways they would ideally choose to spend time with their mother. Submissions will be narrowed to a field of five, and visitors to the Facebook page can vote for their favorite. The family to submit the top vote-getting idea will receive an event or experience valued at up to $5,000.
This year's company-wide Mother's Day celebration is part of Atria's signature Engage Life® events program. Under the program, each event fulfills at least one of eight key dimensions of engagement: Lifelong Learning, Health & Fitness, Entertainment & Fun, Connection, Inspiration & Spirituality, Personal Achievement, Creative Expression, and Civic Engagement.
"Creating opportunities for social connection is one of the most important ways we help our residents live happier, healthier lives, and that includes supporting their relationships with family members," said Ronda Watson, Senior Vice President of Culinary and Engage Life for Atria Senior Living. "For our Mother's Day celebration this year, we wanted to offer enough variety and flexibility to allow as many families as possible to participate and spend some quality time with their moms."
