Atmel maXTouch Solution Powers LG Electronics Mobile's G-Slate Tablet 8.9" Touchscreen
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a leader in microcontroller and touch technology solutions, today announced that LG Electronics Mobile, one of the largest handset manufacturers in the world, has selected the Atmel maXTouch solution for its recently-launched G-Slate 8.9-inch Android tablet touchscreen.
The new LG Electronics Mobile G-Slate is a 4G tablet with an 8.9-inch touchscreen that runs on Honeycomb, the 3.0 version of the Android operating system (OS) created and optimized for tablets. Available by T-Mobile in the US, the G-Slate is powered by Atmel's mXT1386 maXTouch™ solution and NVIDIA's Tegra 2 1GHz processor. The 8.9-inch WXGA display gives G-Slate users an optimal touch experience including 10 simultaneous touches at one time. The new PC tablet comes with a 6,400 mAh battery, 5M pixel 3D camera and weighs only 620g.
Atmel maXTouch solutions offer industry-best multi-touch with unlimited touch capability; lowest power consumption; fastest response time; and the highest signal-to-noise ratio to detect the most sensitive touches with a finger nail, stylus and a user with gloves on his hands. These chipsets also reject unintended touches including grip and palm rejection to enable an easy-to-use, intuitive and seamless touch experience for the user. Atmel maXTouch chipsets enable enhanced gestures, faster response times and the highest touch performance for the best accuracy, linearity and repeatability.
"Since G-Slate PC tablet is LG Electronics Mobile's first entry into the tablet market, we wanted to ensure we chose the best touch technology on the market today – Atmel maXTouch solutions," said Simon Ji, Ph.D., principal research engineer of LG Electronics. "By choosing Atmel maXTouch solutions, our consumers can experience a superior touchscreen experience including better responsiveness, battery life and true multi-touch capability on our 8.9-inch G-Slate tablet."
"We are excited our maXTouch solution will power the G-Slate tablet from LG Electronics Mobile," said Jon Kiachian, senior director of touch marketing, Atmel Corporation. "The selection of Atmel maXTouch for LG Electronics Mobiles' G-Slate is further testament that Atmel is a leading provider in the rapidly growing touch market for smartphones, tablets and other portable devices."
