RESTON, Va., Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Society of Appraisers is pleased to announce the release of a new educational course titled "Allocating Components in Going Concern Appraisals", developed in response to new requirements impacting SBA-backed business loans and recent moves by financial institutions, both of which are providing new opportunities for ASA-designated appraisers who specialize in Going Concern valuations.

As of January 1, 2014 the Small Business Administration (SBA) began adherence to updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) dealing with all aspects of SBA-backed business loans. Reflected in these SOPs are changes to who is considered a "qualified source" to perform Going Concern valuations in support of these loans. The new SOPs require appraisers to hold one of several generally recognized professional appraisal designations – including the Accredited Senior Appraiser offered by ASA – to be considered a "qualified source".
ASA's new three-day course will provide ASA-designated real property appraisers and other certified general appraisers a thorough, hands-on learning experience covering the knowledge and understanding to properly allocate/segregate the components and report their effect on value as required by the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Instruction will be provided by highly experienced, ASA-designated appraisers who specialize in real property and business valuation. The course has been approved for 27 hours of continuing education credits for the following states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Additional states pending.
Allocating Components in Going Concern Appraisals will be held in three locations starting this spring with future dates and locations to be added throughout the year.
