Arby's® and its Customers Team Up to End Childhood Hunger in America
The Third Annual In-Store Fundraiser Kicks Off August 19 to Raise Money for the Arby's Foundation and its Partnership with Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry® Campaign
ATLANTA, Aug. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Arby's restaurants across the country are teaming up with their customers to help put an end to childhood hunger in America. From August 19 until September 29, Arby's will collect donations for the Arby's Foundation in support of its mission to end childhood hunger in partnership with Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign. The goal of the in-store fundraiser, now in its third year, is to raise $2.75 million nationally.
Customers who donate $1 at participating restaurants will receive a pin-up card to sign and hang on the walls of the restaurant to show their support. As a thank you for their donations, two coupons for $1 off any full priced sandwich purchase, and a free turnover with any full priced sandwich purchase.
"Childhood hunger does not discriminate—it is a serious problem that affects each and every community in this country," said Hala Moddelmog, president, Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. "One in five children in America lives in a household that struggles to put food on the table, and it's time for this to change. We at Arby's are committed to doing what we can to end childhood hunger, and we encourage our customers to do the same."
From May until August of this year, the Arby's Foundation traveled to 30 U.S. cities as part of the Hungry for Happiness tour to raise awareness about the increased severity of childhood hunger during the summer months and help increase participation in free summer meal sites around the country. The 18-wheel Arby's Foundation event vehicle traveled more than 20,000 miles and served more than 6,000 complimentary Arby's® Kids Meals (which are endorsed by Kids LiveWell and meets USDA nutritional standards with a Jr. turkey and cheese sandwich, apple slices and Shamrock Farms low-fat milk).
Arby's is the largest quick service restaurant chain to partner in a nationwide effort with Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, and, since 2011, has raised more than $5 million for its mission. This promotion is part of an annual movement led by the No Kid Hungry campaign, bringing together thousands of restaurants and millions of consumers across the country to support efforts to ensure that every child in the U.S. gets the food they need to learn and grow.
