"Empowering women in the workplace isn't just the right thing to do – it's simply good business. Organizations can create their own equitable cultures by learning from the companies on this list, who get women's buy-in of the mission by inspiring them to innovate and drive the company forward," said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work, who earlier this year announced the company's mission to help close the gender gap in America's workforce by 2020 at the Great Place to Work For All Summit.
Research from Great Place to Work found:
- Companies with smaller gaps in survey scores between women and men also have, on average, much smaller disparities in work experience for employees of color, LGBT team members, Millennials, part-timers and even people at different pay levels.
- Women who say their organization is psychologically and emotionally healthy and that they can be themselves in the workplace are 5x more likely to say their company is a great place to work.
- Women who say they make a difference at their organizations are 5x more likely to describe their companies as great places to work.
About the Best Workplaces for Women
The ranking considered surveys of more than 4.5 million U.S. employees at Great Place to Work-Certified™ organizations, assessing them on:
- Key metrics on how women rated their organizations in more than 60 areas, including respect, fairness, leadership effectiveness, and the ability to maximize their full potential.
- Women's survey results compared to their male colleagues to ensure women had as positive an experience as men, such as access to meaningful work, fair pay, and plans for a future with their organizations.
- Consistent experiences in a diverse group to ensure companies created great workplaces for all women, regardless of who they are or what jobs they do.
Surveys were conducted anonymously, and women's results achieved at least a 95 percent confidence level and a 5 percent margin of error or less. To be considered, companies need to employ at least 50 women, and at least 20% of their non-executive managers and one executive need to be female.
