Animoto Reveals 78 Percent of Consumers Plan to Mark This Holiday Season with Video
75 Percent of Consumers Rely on Video to Commemorate Important Life Events
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Animoto, the leading online video maker that makes it easy for anyone to create and share professional-quality video, reported additional findings from its Video Creation Study that show video is the preferred method for consumers to commemorate their most important life events throughout the year and during the holiday season. The Animoto Video Creation Study surveyed 1,031 U.S. consumers who had recorded or created a personal video in the past six months, and found three quarters of consumers use video to commemorate milestone events, with 78 percent planning to celebrate the upcoming holiday season with a video greeting.
"Video is quickly becoming tightly woven into the fabric of our lives," said Brad Jefferson, CEO and co-founder, Animoto. "For landmark moments, video helps capture emotion in a way that photos simply can't. Sharing those videos is a uniting gesture, and our study found today's consumers are relying on video more frequently for their most cherished moments."
Videos Celebrate Our Most Important Memories
Video is becoming the method of choice for consumers to commemorate important milestones, in fact 72 percent of consumers make it a priority to create videos to capture life events. Certain occasions are most popular for video creation:
- 54 percent of consumers create birthday keepsake videos.
- 46 percent create videos to commemorate their vacations.
- One in five consumers create videos for Mother's Day and 17 percent create videos for Father's Day.
Video Gifts Keep on Giving
In addition to creating videos to memorialize their life experiences, consumers also take joy in creating videos as gifts for friends and family:
- A quarter of consumers create videos as gifts to share.
- 39 percent of consumers create videos because they enjoy the positive reaction from friends and family.
The Rise of Digital Season's Greetings
The holidays represent some of the most treasured times we share with loved ones each year. Today's consumers are transforming how we connect during the season by choosing video over traditional greeting cards:
- 54 percent of consumers prefer to receive videos as an alternative to holiday cards.
- 79 percent of consumers enjoy watching holiday videos from friends and family.
- 46 percent of consumers have created a video as an alternative to a "season's greetings" card.
- 41 percent of consumers have created a year-in-review video.
"Consumers are choosing video to not only mark the most important moments in their lives, but also to celebrate the holidays. This shift from paper cards to dynamic videos is a break in tradition, demonstrating that people prefer to give their loved ones a more personal and thoughtful glimpse into their lives, epitomizing the sentiment of the season," added Jefferson.
