An Unprecedented Close Up Look At The Importance Of Self-confidence Shines A Spotlight On The Challenges Faced by Adolescent Girls When It Comes To How They Feel About Themselves
BEIJING, Sept. 26, 2017 PRNewswire/ -- Recently, Whisper's #LikeAGirl campaign, created by Procter & Gamble, partnered with UN Women to launch a program that helps adolescent girls in China boost their self-confidence. Through the public benefit campaign's hashtag, which translates from the Chinese as #Change your avatar back to the one you had when you were before 12 years old#, Chinese adolescent girls are encouraged via social platforms to recall and maintain self-confident they felt during childhood, and, at the same time, dare to have the courage to embrace the failure, accept it as part of the process of growing up, and keep going. Chinese rising star and actress Dilireba, top influencer Mi Meng and dozens of the country's most influential women took the lead in changing their avatars, leading to an ever-increasing number of discussions concerning this issue among millions of Chinese women on social platforms.
Roughly 50 million girls enter adolescence worldwide every year, while over half of them are very likely to suffer a blow to their self-confidence during the period. The fragile level of self-confidence among adolescent girls has been largely ignored.
The "KeepGoing" themed #LikeAGirl campaign attracted extensive attention. It is the first time the often invisible obstacles that figure sharply in the life of a girl once she enters adolescence have been brought into the spotlight and become a widely discussed topic. It is being recognized that communities must take action to encourage and help girls learn to develop their potential and act on the opportunities for growing up in a healthier and more positive way once they enter puberty.
It is also one of the major reasons why the #LikeAGirl campaign continues to trigger discussions worldwide and receive positive feedback from girls entering their teenage years since it was launched four years ago. It conveys a powerful message to these girls - find yourselves, find your self-confidence, be your natural self and enjoy the freedom that life gives you.
