An Innovative Idea to Select the Most Highly Talented Teachers for Online School, DaDaABC'S "Most Valuable Teacher" Competition Draws to a Close
SHANGHAI, Jan. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The "Most Valued Teacher" competition, sponsored by the domestic K12 online English education institute DaDaABC, has come to a successful end. Lynn Mallory, vocational development manager of Oxford University Press in China, and Chris Tomes, vocational development advisor, were invited as professional judges to select the most talented candidates.
There were three rounds of the competition to gradually select the most qualified and skilled teachers to move to the next round. Candidates were asked to select one of their 1-on-1 English classes for judging. They were also asked to host a lecture class to hundreds of students to evaluate their skills. In the final round, four professional Native English teachers from Europe and the United States won the extraordinary prizes which ranged from $10,000 cash, a paid trip to China and new iPhone X handsets.
This ground-breaking competition represents the new style of online English education and showcases the extraordinary strength of the teachers' abilities.
LaShundra Wigfall, a senior English teacher with a master's degree in Education and five years of teaching experience, won the first prize. She promotes the idea of diverse and practical education. Nicola Payne, an advocate for online TPR methodology has been at DaDaABC since 2015, very much deserved the second prize. Kristian Ross, is a bilingual teacher of English and Spanish from Brighton in the UK and took home the third prize. Jade Hodgkiss focuses on teaching children the integral listening skill and she took the special prize.
This competition began in the mid-October until the end of December, so lasted for nearly three months. As the first international online competition organized and sponsored by an China K12 Online English Education Institute, it effectively raised the quality of foreign teachers in the online education industry. The two professional judges in this competition -- Lynn Mallory, vocational development manager of Oxford University Press in China; Chris Tomes, vocational development advisor, are all experienced professionals in the field of education. Ms. Lynn holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in English education from North Carolina State University. She is also a certified second-language English teacher by the U.S. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, a trainer of Oxford Teacher Institute authorized by Oxford University and a teacher trainer recognized by Arab National English Education Association and Mongolia Education Ministry Vocational Development Institute. Chris, also as a course trainer of Oxford Teacher Institute authorized by Oxford University, has more than ten-years teaching and training experience in China. In each round of competition, the two professional judges all gave pertinent suggestions and guidance to the competitors.
