AMR Releases 2010 Corporate Responsibility Report
Interactive, Web-based Annual Report Includes Comprehensive Overview of Corporate Responsibility Efforts
FORT WORTH, Texas, May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AMR, the parent company of American Airlines and its regional affiliate American Eagle, today released its third annual Corporate Responsibility Report (CRR). The report details AMR's progress towards the company's long-term investment in responsible business practices.
This year's CRR presents a summary of the company's performance throughout the 2010 calendar year as related to four key focus areas: customers, employees, the environment and communities. Additionally, a table highlighting performance and goals provides readers with an at-a-glance summary of AMR's most important achievements and future commitments.

Report highlights include:
Customers
- A joint business agreement with British Airways and Iberia was launched in October 2010 and American received anti-trust immunity for its joint business agreement with Japan Airlines in November 2010.
- American and American Eagle significantly improved year-over-year on-time departure and arrival performance.
- American introduced a new Your Choice(SM) menu of products and services designed to make the customer travel experience more convenient, cost-effective, flexible and personalized.
- American employees collectively earned $36 million in customer experience cash awards that recognize the achievement of high levels of customer satisfaction and travel dependability.
Environment
- Celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Fuel Smart program, with more than 500 million gallons saved to date.
- Received and deployed 45 new Boeing 737 aircraft by the end of 2010 that are 35 percent more fuel-efficient on an available seat-mile basis than the MD-80 aircraft they are replacing.
- American ranked 111th in Newsweek magazine's 2010 Green Ranking, the best performance of any passenger airline.
- Achieved more than $12 million in annual savings through energy-efficiency initiatives implemented by American's Utilities Management Council.
Employees
- Reduced the lost work case injury rate at American by 19 percent since 2004.
- Recognized for excellence in promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace, and received a perfect score of 100 percent for the ninth consecutive year on the Human Rights Campaign's 2010 Corporate Equality Index.
- American's 16 Employee Resource Groups positively influence business decisions by ensuring that American is well-represented in the communities it serves; raising cultural awareness; assisting the company in recognizing the needs of diverse customers; and supporting new route launches.
Community
- Contributed more than $14 million through direct and indirect support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, involving more than 20,000 employee donors and volunteers.
- American Airlines flight attendants and ground personnel helped raise $1.6 million from customers through UNICEF's Change for Good program, also proudly supported by Airline Ambassadors International.
- AMR employees donated more than $1 million to charitable organizations through the Workforce Giving Program and donated 38,000 hours of volunteer service to 207 organizations.
- American and American Eagle flew 30 relief missions to Haiti, carrying more than 400,000 pounds of relief supplies in addition to transporting medical and relief personnel. Employees and customers also helped raise more than $1.5 million for Red Cross relief efforts.
The CRR is formatted as a Web-based publication made available online rather than a print-formatted publication. The report can be found under the "About Us" section of AA.com and is interactive and easy to navigate. Separate sections highlight the four key focus areas, with additional Web pages devoted to case studies and highlights. An executive summary is also available online in PDF format.
American Airlines again applied the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines in developing the 2010 Corporate Responsibility Report and is self-declaring a "B" Application Level. The GRI is the world's most widely used standard for sustainability reporting and provides companies with guidance regarding the principles and metrics they can use to measure and disclose economic, environmental and social performance.
