Amerijet International initiated its service to Trinidad in 1991, operating two flights per week utilizing a B727-100 freighter with a capacity to carry 20,000 kg of freight per flight. In the early stages, Amerijet flew dry freight and perishables directly from Miami in combination with other routes to provide the emerging economy in Trinidad with the goods needed for industrial and agricultural growth.
Today, the airline operates a bonded warehouse and a Caribbean Cargo Hub out of the Piarco International Airport. Customers benefit from six B727-200 flights per week connecting the Southern Caribbean and destinations in Latin America to Trinidad with a total weekly capacity of 163,000 kg. Amerijet's scheduled B767-200 freighter service provides shippers with an additional 270,000 kg of weekly air freight capacity for goods moving between the United States, Canada, the Northern Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, Europe and Asia.
Amerijet has maintained its commitment to the Trinidadian community and with significant investment has grown into the largest all-cargo airline serving the Caribbean markets.
The Airports Authority of Trinidad & Tobago officially congratulated Amerijet, by releasing the following statement: "The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago congratulates Amerijet International Inc. on the celebration of their 20th Anniversary of scheduled service to Piarco International Airport. Amerijet took the bold step in 1995 to enter into a lease agreement with the Authority and to commence the development and operations of their air cargo warehousing operations at Piarco.
"Over the last 20 years through their pioneering spirit the operations have grown and they have provided not only import and export services out of Piarco but have been at the forefront in developing the in-transit cargo business in Trinidad.
"We applaud them for the innovation and quality service and wish them all success in their plans to grow the air cargo business at Piarco."
"We are very proud to be the only carrier providing direct all-cargo service linking the Nations of the South Caribbean, and even more proud that our base of operations is in such an important market as Trinidad & Tobago," said Regional Operations Manager, Ricardo Henrique. "We are also the only carrier providing a scheduled air cargo service linking the South American countries of Guyana and Suriname with their CARICOM neighbours and the only airline operating to every one of the CARICOM Member States." Henrique further added, "Our commitment, partnership with our customers and people are the highest contributors to our success. We are truly grateful to be a part of the Caribbean community."
