America's Next Top Science Stars Named in Nation's Premier High School Science Competition

ISELIN, N.J., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Siemens Foundation today announced the 2010-11 Semifinalists and Regional Finalists in the prestigious Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, the nation's premier science research competition for high school students.  

"Each year, the Siemens Foundation invites America's high school students to make their mark in the world of science," said Jeniffer Harper-Taylor, president of the Siemens Foundation.  "We commend this year's finalists on rising to the challenge and look forward to getting to know them and their research as this year's Siemens Competition unfolds."

Every fall, America turns its eye to the brilliant young scientists competing in the Siemens Competition.  2,033 students registered to enter the Competition this year for a record number of 1,372 projects submitted.   312 students were named semifinalists and 94 were named regional finalists, representing 36 states.  A complete list is available at www.siemens-foundation.org.

Administered by the College Board, the Siemens Competition awards college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 in individual and team categories.  Regional finalists are invited to compete at one of six regional events held over three consecutive weekends in November.  These young innovators will showcase the next wave of cutting edge science to expert university judges at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (November 5-6); The University of Texas at Austin (November 5-6); Georgia Institute of Technology (November 12-13); California Institute of Technology (November 12-13); University of Notre Dame (November 19-20) and Carnegie Mellon University (November 19-20).
