BOSTON, May 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- American Well announced today that its clinical partner, Online Care Group, has added online breastfeeding support to its growing list of clinical services. Health systems, health plans and employers using American Well technology can now offer customers' access to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) for on-demand and scheduled video visits. This unique service gives new mothers access to professional experts who can answer questions, address concerns and offer advice concerning breastfeeding and related challenges that may arise with feeding a newborn.
American Well is the only company to offer breastfeeding support services through its clinical partner.
"As every mother knows, breastfeeding a newborn, whether it's your first or fourth child, can be difficult and presents challenges for both baby and mother," said Dr. Sylvia Romm, medical director, American Well and pediatrician, Online Care Group. "Access to breastfeeding support at the hospital where the baby is born may be limited or non-existent, and this creates undue stress on baby and mother. We are so happy to offer this helpful and necessary clinical service to our partners, and to help new moms and their babies feel safe, secure and happy at home."
The benefits of Online Care Group's breastfeeding support services for consumers via American Well's platform include: timely help with common breastfeeding issues such as pumping, latching, weaning, and breastfeeding at work; the unmatched convenience of seeing a consultant over video within 24 hours of requesting an appointment; nationwide access to IBCLCs; the option to self-schedule appointments; and competitive pricing, making virtual visits less costly than in-person visits.
Online Care Group's breastfeeding support service is one of several clinical service lines available. Other services include primary care, pediatrics, psychiatry, therapy, and nutrition. Later this year, American Well will continue to improve patient access to specialty care services as it looks to expand its national telehealth Exchange™ with the addition of individual practitioners and group practices.
American Well currently partners with more than 250 healthcare organizations nationwide from a wide array of industries, including health plans, employers, retail outlets, pharmacy and pharmaceutical companies, and 70 health systems comprised of more than 700 hospitals.
