PHOENIX, Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alliance Residential Company, the nation's second largest multifamily developer and seventh largest multifamily manager, shares key metrics on sustainability, associate wellness and community involvement with the release of the 2017 Corporate Social Responsibility Report.
"Our goal is to inspire socially- and environmentally-conscious thinking within multifamily housing, and within our own organization, to drive responsible action and decision-making," said Kelly Vickers, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility. "This report is a vehicle to start and continue a larger conversation about sustainability, wellness and philanthropy with our employees, third-party clients, equity partners, vendors and industry peers. We've built engagement and education as the cornerstones of our efforts, ensuring the conversation is ongoing and embedded into our culture as a means of intrinsic motivation in others."
One of the biggest developments since the 2016 report is the restructuring of the corporate-sponsored, nationwide charity/volunteer program, Alliance Cares, which is now aligned under the company's passion for and commitment to three areas: housing, the environment and community advocacy. In 2017, Alliance is:
- Making an impact on the concept of "home" and supporting those in vulnerable housing situations through a partnership with Rebuilding Together.
- Partnering with Lyft as a preferred form of business travel with a percentage of all rides taken by Alliance employees or residents going to a charity of our choice.
- Adding a Volunteer Time Off (VTO) benefit to make up to 8 hours of paid time off available each year to full-time employees.
Recognizing the impact of the multifamily housing industry on the environment, Alliance also continues to expand its site-level sustainability program, Focus Green. The success of these implemented changes can be seen throughout the report, with a few notable highlights, including:
- 76% of the Alliance portfolio (278 communities) now offer recycling collection.
- During "Fix-a-Leak Week", Alliance maintenance associates successfully repaired over 170 leaks, resulting in substantial water conservation, lower utility expenses and reduced water-related property damage.
- Alliance is adopting paperless workflows nationwide.
- In 2016, all communities were required to only accept online rent payments and started using a cloud storage solution for manuals and internal documents.
- In 2017 and into 2018, Alliance will fully convert all lease file storage to the cloud and implement a digital signature workflow, eliminating the need for unnecessary printing and mailing.
- Currently, 72 properties are either certified or in the process of certifying to various green building designations, such as LEED, NGBS, GreenPoint and IREM Certified Sustainable Property.
"It can be easy to lose sight of the big picture — this report helps us stop and reflect on what matters most," said Jay Hiemenz, President/CEO. "At the core, what we do is provide places for people to live, places to call home, places to welcome guests, places to rest and places to connect with others. We are meeting not just the most basic needs of our residents, owners and associates; we are helping people reach their full potential."
