AICM has held its "Responsible Care" awards ceremony since 2013. After a rigorous evaluation process, 23 companies won awards, including 14 "Chairman Awards" (AkzoNobel, BASF, Cabot, Celanese, Clariant, Covestro, Dow, Eastman, ExxonMobil, LANXESS', Lubrizol , PPG, SABIC, Wacker) and 9 "Merit Awards" (Air Liquide, Arkema, Evonik, Ingevity, Mitsubishi, Mitsui Chemicals, Methanex, Topsafe&Trinseo). During the Awards Ceremony, AICM also kicked off its 2017 "Open to Public Day" program. Community awareness and emergency response is one of the six Responsible Care codes, highlighting the importance and necessity of chemical companies to gain community public recognition and support. Therefore, since 2009, AICM has worked with member companies to hold "Open-to-public Days", which effectively promotes community and the stakeholders' awareness and understanding on chemicals science and chemical industry. In 2017, 30 AICM member companies will open their factories and offices, to publicize innovation in chemical science, enhance information transparency, and promote harmonious communication with the public and surrounding partners.
Following the AICM Responsible Care award ceremony, the 2017 China Responsible Care Conference was held together with CPCIF, to further promote the practice of Responsible Care in China, making the chemical industry safer, greener and more sustainable.
Responsible Care® (RC) is implemented in more than 50 countries as a global voluntary initiative in the chemical industry, with commitment of many chemical companies. Responsible Care® represents the determination of the chemical industry to improve health, safety and environmental performance. Its six codes cover community awareness and emergency response, distribution, pollution prevention, production process safety, employee health and safety and product regulation. Since 2008, AICM has promoted "Responsible Care" in China in conjunction with ICCA and was awarded observer status in the ICCA Responsible Care Leadership Group in 2010. Nearly two-thirds of AICM members have signed the ICCA "Responsible Care Global Charter".
Chairman Dr. Alasdair Jelfs said, "The role of AICM is to encourage members to bring their best practices of Responsible Care into China to implement them locally and to propagate those practices more broadly in our industry. As such, our members encourage the local industry to raise performance, particularly in the area of environment, health and safety. Our goal is to benefit all stakeholders in our industry, including customers, suppliers, the local community, employees and investors through the positive impact of Responsible Care and to achieve this, extensive technological and management expertise is applied in China."
"Besides running regular workshops, forums and conferences to promote Responsible Care, AICM also developed the 'Road Safety Quality Assessment System (RSQAS)' which provides a tool to assess quality, safety and environmental management systems of logistic service providers in a uniformed manner by independent assessors. AICM members have conducted RC self-assessment and submitted Key performance indicators as well as participating in a Responsible Care Peer Review (RCPR) program. Through information sharing and best practice development, indicators of performance and peer review procedures, it enables the industry to demonstrate its commitment and in doing so helps build trust with the public and credibility with its stakeholders," added Jeff Zhu, AICM vice Chairman, President of the Asia Pacific region, Cabot Corporation.
