EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., Feb. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- AfterShokz, the headphone brand known for its patented bone conduction technology and safe open ear listening experience, is proud to announce their partnership with the United Relay of America, the world's first triple-route coast-to-coast nonstop running relay. Runners who want to make a difference for communities across the globe will set off from Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and meet in New York City, carrying three batons nearly 12,000 miles in the three unbroken chains. In the process, awareness and an estimated $1.5 million will be raised to support the coalition of charities partnered with the We Are Here Movement and local children's hospitals across the nation.
Lasting just over five weeks from start to finish, the relay is geared to all types of runners, from the complete novice to the more experienced athlete. The finale in New York City's Prospect Park will celebrate the achievements of participants and the unity of the three relays coming together in support of a multitude of causes.
Bruce Borenstein, AfterShokz president and CEO explained the key reasoning behind the affiliation: "Other than doing our part to raise awareness and give back, we're furthering our mission to keep people safe! Most organized runs take place on closed courses, but the United Relay of America's three legs will take an estimated 9,000 runners on roadside courses, during all hours and conditions—a situation that could be potentially unsafe. Our involvement will ensure participants are aware of their surroundings as they run—with their ears open—as they pass the batons, day and night, joined together in their causes."
Runners can claim a leg of the relay individually or as a team on the United Relay of America website (www.unitedrelay.org). On sign up, runners are given a complete breakdown of the event, advice on what route to take and how to fundraise effectively. Their personal profile enables them to receive sponsorship as well as, most importantly, supplying a framework for an online runner community for participants to interact and find like-minded people.
This event is more than a project of passion for James Hay, United Relay of America Director. "The United Relay of America aims to inspire, empower and connect people across the nation—to not only be a part of running history, but also be united for a better world," he said.
