BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AdvisorShares, a leading sponsor of 16 actively managed exchange-traded funds (ETFs), recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its domestic equity active ETF, the TrimTabs Float Shrink ETF (NYSE Arca: TTFS), which has outperformed the Russell 3000® Index since its inception. TTFS is managed by TrimTabs Asset Management (TrimTabs), an SEC-registered investment adviser affiliated with TrimTabs Investment Research, a renowned independent institutional research firm focusing on equity market liquidity.

The investment strategy of TTFS has multiple critical components. First, the portfolio manager seeks to identify companies that are actively engaged in buying back their own company stock (shrinking the "float"), which may create a potentially profitable supply and demand imbalance in the secondary equity market. Additionally, they seek to identify companies that have positive and growing free cash flow (profitable companies), and reduce the leverage on their balance sheets. TrimTabs' extensive research process shows that investing in such companies has the potential to outperform passive and other fundamentally based investment strategies. TTFS screens approximately 3,000 U.S. companies on a daily basis and then invests in the highest ranked 100 stocks, equally weighted, based on its quantitative algorithm.
Since its inception on Oct. 4, 2011 and through Sept. 30, 2012, TTFS has outperformed the Russell 3000® Index, while providing transparency, liquidity and better operational and tax efficiency within an ETF structure.

"TTFS has outperformed its Russell 3000® benchmark and during its first year since coming to market," said Noah Hamman, Chief Executive Officer of AdvisorShares. "We believe investors and our advisor base seeking to build a U.S. equity allocation to their portfolios may benefit from this transparent, liquid, operational and tax efficient active ETF, which has established a track record and outperformed a well-known passive index."
Charles Biderman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TrimTabs and Portfolio Manager of TTFS said, "Through our active approach to stock selection, we've been able to apply what TrimTabs research has long demonstrated—investors can profit by betting alongside the management of companies that engage in prudent float shrink. I believe investors across all time horizons and demographics should maintain some exposure to U.S. equities in a diversified portfolio. TTFS offers investors a smart and practical way to gain such exposure."
