Adconion Direct Partners With Special Olympics Southern California School Games To Bring Local Business, Students and Community Together
San Diego-based Company Sponsors Memorable Day of Basketball and Encouragement for Special Needs Athletes
SAN DIEGO, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Team members of Adconion Direct (http://www.adconiondirect.com), a leader in cross channel digital advertising solutions headquartered in San Diego, came together in support of Special Olympics Southern California School Games. The event was held on May 31, 2013, and is part of the San Diego Region's Special Olympics ongoing efforts to provide memorable and rewarding experiences for individuals with special needs in the school setting. Special Olympic athletes and their families are given the opportunity to participate, train, and compete in the athletic arena and meet students from other districts.
"Special Olympics School Games highlight all that is best in our community; teachers working together with local businesses and volunteers to empower and enrich their students," said Karen Terra, Regional Director of Special Olympics San Diego County. "With partners like Adconion Direct, School Games can continue to provide an avenue for students with intellectual disabilities to get that moment to shine: to compete, to hear the crowd cheer, to throw their hands up in celebration. It's a life-changing event for the participants and the volunteers."
The event, held at Mira Mesa High School, was heralded as a massive success with over 95 athletes from five area schools (Mira Mesa, Hoover, Torrey Pines, Scripps Ranch, and Crawford) who participated and competed in basketball skills competitions and 5-on-5 basketball games, as students and volunteers cheered them on. 120 company members spent the day refereeing, coaching, and organizing the event alongside students, teachers, parents and local volunteers. Mira Mesa High School cheerleaders, mascot and ASB club also participated in the event as well to create a truly special day of camaraderie, community kinship and positivity. It is one of San Diego's most unique events. Award ceremonies were held to recognized each athlete and team.
This event marks the second Adconion Direct sponsored School Games in an ongoing partnership between the company and Special Olympics Southern California San Diego County. Adconion Direct's support and involvement in the local organization builds on one of the company's core missions of giving back to the community. To date, in addition to other charitable efforts nationwide, the company has also partnered locally with the Ronald McDonald House, San Diego Habitat for Humanity's Building for the Brave, San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, Feeding America, Milestone House, Goodwill, New Life Headstart and Father Joe's Villages.
"Adconion Direct is committed to actively serving the local community," said CEO Kim Reed Perell. "The athletes, volunteers and organization behind the Special Olympics School Games are truly inspirational. We are so proud to be a part of this incredible event, and our team is so thankful to encounter the kind of courage and perseverance we saw in each athlete. The School Games provide a wonderfully fulfilling experience for both the athletes and all who participate."
