Ad Council Continues to Support Hurricane Relief with Distribution of PSA Featuring Former Presidents
New TV Ad Directs Viewers to Donate at OneAmericaAppeal.org to Aid Victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma
NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- To continue to drive support for Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma relief, the Ad Council is distributing a public service announcement (PSA) today featuring all five living former presidents urging the public to donate to recovery efforts. The PSA directs audiences to visit OneAmericaAppeal.org, where they can make a contribution to support the people and communities affected by the devastating storms in Texas and Florida. The new PSA can be viewed here.
Former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter were moved to lend their support in response to the unprecedented devastation wrought by these storms. Hurricane Harvey alone has displaced more than a million people and caused an anticipated $180 billion in damages to over 200,000 homes and businesses.
100 cents of every dollar donated will go to assist hurricane victims, through a special restricted account established through the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation. Donations are tax deductible and all monies collected will be distributed immediately to designated recovery funds.
"When we come together as one country, we're able to have a much greater impact than any individual can have alone," said Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council. "We can reach out from all across the nation to help the people of Texas and Florida recover and rebuild."
One America Appeal's first PSA, "Our Friends in Texas," focused on the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Harvey in Texas and debuted September 7th on the NFL's season-opening primetime game featuring Kansas City at New England. A second PSA, "One America Appeal," was released this past weekend as Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida – and again received donated media support from the NFL during their Sunday and Monday Night coverage. The PSA has been viewed nearly 1 million times on YouTube.
Per the Ad Council's model, the PSA will be distributed to media outlets nationwide and it will run in donated time and space. Extreme Reach, the cloud technology platform for TV & Video ad workflow and Talent & Rights management, donated the digital distributions.
