Abt Associates to Help Countries Invest in Low-Emission Growth
BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates won a $6.7 million USAID-funded project to help governments of developing countries, USAID overseas offices and the private sector prioritize and implement low-emission growth strategies through the Analysis and Investment of Low-Emission Growth (AILEG) project. Through AILEG, Abt assists developing countries to conduct climate economic analyses and select low-emission investments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions while achieving sustainable growth.
As part of the two-year project, Abt Associates will help development leaders and policy experts make informed decisions on climate economic policies and programs. AILEG provides governments and leading economic policy agencies with the best practices in modeling economy-wide and sector-level impacts of taking alternative climate change actions.
In partnership with host countries, the private sector and civil society, Abt Associates will support assistance to all stakeholders to help them understand the impacts and the economic trade-offs of policies that are designed to mitigate climate change. The project will be tailored to support each country's economic modeling and green investment capacity, data availability and policy needs.
"As a leader in creating innovative, customized climate change economic assessment tools, we recognize that while climate change has global implications, it demands local solutions in emission mitigation and climate resilient investments," said Dr. Marcia Gowen Trump, AILEG project manager in Abt's International Economic Growth Division. "We are pleased to work with USAID to assist governments in evaluating -- and overcoming barriers to -- green investments through assessing the long-term economic impacts of alternative climate policies."
The project will be conducted in partnership with Duke University and Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
