AURORA, Ill., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Gas prices in Illinois and northern Indiana have risen sharply in the last few weeks, largely due to a pipeline leak in suburban Chicago. AAA Chicago's most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has increased $.06 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.94 per gallon for the month of September, which is $.35 higher per gallon than last year.

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.93, which is up 18 cents from August 2010 and up $.47 from September 2009.
"Gas prices are unseasonably high due to the Enbridge pipeline leak in Suburban Chicago," said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago. "Unfortunately, consumers should expect to pay these higher prices at least in the near-term until the pipeline has been approved to restart and supplies are fully restored to the area."
