A New Way to Get TV: Verizon Gives Customers an Unrivaled Level of Choice With the New FiOS 'Custom TV'
Verizon Is the First Pay-TV Provider to Offer a New, Simple Way to Personalize TV
NEW YORK, April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- FiOS TV customers can now customize their TV plan to better match their specific viewing desires – matching a package of programming that includes packs of genre-based content they choose.
In an industry first, FiOS Custom TV is designed to give customers more freedom and flexibility to choose the perfect TV plan for their home or small business, with content they can customize from a menu of choices.
Simple and Customizable
FiOS Custom TV enables customers to purchase a package of programming that includes their choice of channel packs from seven different genres: Kids, Pop Culture, Lifestyle, Entertainment, News & Info, Sports and Sports Plus. No other subscription-TV service offers this level of personal control and value to consumers today. Although the number of TV channels the average American receives has increased by 46 percent over five years, Americans continue to view an average of 17 channels, according to Nielsen's Advertising & Audience Report.
Every FiOS Custom TV package includes a base set of channels with select national networks, plus all local broadcast TV network stations. To complete their FiOS Custom TV package, customers choose at least two genre packs that match their interests. Customers who want more than two genre packs can add more to their service for $10 per month for each additional pack. (The genre groups are not available on a stand-alone basis or in combination with any existing FiOS TV package.)
Sports lovers, for example, have two ways to get sports in their FiOS Custom TV package: Sports, which includes the most-watched sports channels; and Sports Plus, which includes Regional Sports Networks and other popular national sports programming. Avid sports fans who want the complete TV sports experience will want to include Sports Plus in their Custom TV package, which requires taking Sports as well.
Personalization also delivers savings, so customers can get what they want for less than many loaded traditional bundles.
"This is an entirely new way to personalize TV," said Tami Erwin, president of Verizon's Consumer and Mass Business group. "FiOS Custom TV delivers consumers more choice and control over their TV. This package gives customers the flexibility to choose what they want and pay for just that. It's simple and personalized."
Customers have the option to purchase Custom TV stand-alone or as part of a double or triple play. A triple-play bundle consisting of Custom TV – including the two genre packs that come with the package – FiOS Digital Voice and FiOS Internet with symmetrical upload and download speeds of 25 megabits per second starts at $74.99 when ordered online, for new customers. As always, customers can upgrade their Internet speeds for this package to the popular FiOS Quantum tier, for an additional cost.
Customers who still want to purchase more "traditional" FiOS TV packages, such as Extreme HD, Preferred HD or Ultimate HD, may continue to do so.
It's Easy: Order and Change Your Channel Packs Using the Remote, by Calling or on the Web
