2(X)IST Launch Makes Instant Sales Possible for the First Time on the Streets of America
New Yorkers are able to buy through digital stores in special locations within the city and at the back of 8,000 yellow cabs
NEW YORK, December 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Mobile commerce market leader PowaTag has been launched in New York, at the height of the busy Christmas season through its partnership with American men's underwear brand 2(X)IST, the first American launch for the disruptive retail technology. Virtual stores - made up of billboards and bus shelters - have been strategically positioned right across the city of New York, in areas of high-traffic. Alongside this, 8,000 iconic New York City cabs will enable consumers to buy 2(X)IST merchandise through embedded audio-tags in a 60 second video.
Dan Wagner, veteran retail expert and CEO of Powa Technologies, says: "Consumers across America are using their mobile devices to interact more and more with their surroundings. In busy cities like New York, consumers are often rushing and if they happen to notice an offer, they will probably forget once they get home. We have enabled shoppers to purchase at the peak of their desire to buy with two taps of their smartphone. For retailers, it is very much about removing the barriers to instant purchasing and capitalizing on that initial impulse to buy."
The platform makes use of a combination of technologies including; Bluetooth beacons, digital audio watermarks, QR codes and embedded social media links. With PowaTag allowing consumers to store their payment and delivery details within the platform, consumers are able to scan and buy in seconds.
PowaTag has so far signed over 1,100 global retail brands, ranging from SMEs to multinational American retailers. It is signing heavyweight retailers at a rate of 150 per month, with retailers being drawn to PowaTag's potential for blanket application. The platform requires no up-front cost to the retailer, and is available on the two main platforms; Apple and Android. Market-leading American brands operating in sectors such as retail, hospitality, publishing, tourism and not-for-profit organizations, are all drawn to the technology and its potential to engage their customers in real time and drive growth and enhance loyalty in fierce market conditions.
Dan Wagner continues: "2015 will be defining year for PowaTag. We are now seeing a build-up in momentum with American retailers going live with the platform and in the next year, PowaTag will be available in more places than ever. Retailers are belatedly beginning to see the value and potential of mCommerce. Consumers on the other hand have already adapted to this new digital channel, but have had nowhere to use it, except for bigger online retailers such as Amazon who are taking the profits, while retailers feel the pain of abandoned baskets."
"In the past, consumers have been faced with long checkout processes and non-user friendly technology - this has to change if retailers are looking to survive in this fast-changing landscape. They have to adapt their technology to the needs and habits of their consumers, or risk becoming obsolete."
Dan Wagner, veteran retail expert and CEO of Powa Technologies, will be in New York on the 13th & 14th of January for the NRF show 2015, where Powa Technologies have a booth and are one ofthe sponsors. NRF's Annual Convention & EXPO aka "Retail's BIG Show" is NRF's flagship industry event held annually in New York City. The four day event offers unparalleled education, collegial networking, and an enormous EXPO Hall full of technologies and solutions.
