15 Columbus-Area College Students to Compete for Charity in International 24-hour Hackathon, Semicolons, This Friday, February 6th and Saturday, February 7th at Persistent Systems
Event to Cultivate and Showcase Software Technical Talent in the Columbus Region
COLUMBUS, Ohio, February 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
WHO:
Students from The Ohio State University, The University of Toledo, and Capital University will team with Persistent Systems engineers and developers.

WHAT:
- Hackathons, which originated in 1999 but gained wide-spread awareness in the movie The Social Network about Facebook, bring together computer programmers and others involved in software development in a timed competition to design from scratch new software products.
- Semicolons is Persistent Systems annual global hackathon with 28 teams competing in 8 locations in 5 countries around the world. This is the first year students in Ohio will be competing with students from India, France, Malaysia and the UK.
- The hacking teams will each be playing for a charity with donations to each charity based on performance and funds raised. The charities are: The American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children Hospital, Wikipedia and American Red Cross.
WHEN:
- Friday, February 7th at 5:30PM - Opening of competition
- Saturday, February 8th at 6:00PM - Competition closes and judging begins
- Saturday, February 8th at 7:00PM - Award presentations and dinner
