Vivo Attends 2017 MWC, Showcasing Multiple Industry-Leading Technologies
SHANGHAI, June 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading smartphone manufacturer Vivo will showcase multiple innovative technologies and functionalities at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWC Shanghai), including Vivo Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Photography Solution targeted for backlighting and night scene photography, and a Hi-Fi solution with an customized DAC decoding chip.
Themed "The Human Element", MWC Shanghai 2017 will be held at Shanghai New International Expo Center from June 28 to July 1, 2017. The conference is expected to attract more than 650 manufacturers from various fields in the global mobile industry.
The release of Vivo Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution: A real full screen display is to be expected in the future
Among all the technologies and functionalities to be displayed by Vivo, the most notable one is Vivo Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution ("Vivo Under Display") which achieves under-display fingerprint scanning. Although recent news have said an under-display fingerprint technology will be released shortly, this is the first time that it will be demonstrated by a smartphone manufacturer.
In Vivo's R&D plan, fingerprint scanning will not be carried out by an independent button or region. It will be realized more subtly under the screen, behind the metal shell, or even in the frame.
According to Vivo's engineer responsible for the new technology, Vivo Under Display is a new fingerprint unlocking solution based on Qualcomm® Fingerprint Sensors. The ultrasound from the sensor can penetrate an OLED display that is 1.2mm thick to recognize user fingerprint. Compared to traditional capacitive and optical fingerprint recognition technologies prevalent in the industry, Vivo Under Display has tremendous advantages in terms of waterproofing and anti-ambient light.
Since the Vivo Under Display doesn't require a physical button for the fingerprint sensor, it allows a true full-screen display and an integrated unibody and mechanical waterproofing design. This will promote innovative design in smartphone appearance. Based on ultrasonic technology, the fingerprint recognition technology can be further expanded to realize user interaction, such as gesture recognition, security verification and other fields, which will greatly enhance user experience.
Independent DSP Photography Solution: Greatly improve backlighting and night scene photography
To improve photo quality in complicated lighting conditions such as low-light and backlight environments, Vivo is introducing its brand new independent DSP Photography Solution.
In day to day mobile phone photography, users might experience various complicated lighting conditions. The Vivo DSP Photography Solution is designed to help users take pictures with high quality and accurate exposure, and adjust the brightness of the image to make it better correspond to what is actually seen by the human eye. The photography processing speed has also been greatly enhanced.
Theoretically, it will allow smartphones to take multiple RAW pictures quickly when shooting under complicated lighting conditions. The DSP chip will then automatically process and compose a single RAW picture, which is then exported to JPG format by ISP.
Apart from a higher processing speed, the DSP Photography Solution can reduce shot noise for night scene photography to a large extent and even improve the beautification effects of Vivo's Face Beauty Mode.
New heights for smart phone Hi-Fi audio: new customized DAC decoder chip and headphone amplifier technology
Hi-Fi refers to High-Fidelity audio, and products equipped with this technology can provide the users with a high-quality music experience.
As the pioneer of Hi-Fi in smartphones, Vivo has established its position in the mobile phone audio industry through generations of products, and even has promoted the development of the audio chip industry. After bringing smartphone Hi-Fi audio to a new level with its Xplay6 phone, Vivo is releasing a new Hi-Fi solution with improved audio performance from a customized DAC decoding chip.
The new solution is focused on perfecting details via a customized DAC decoding chip together with a customized headphone amplifier, which improves SNR, dynamic range, distortion, and output power. It surpasses the high-quality audio experience of the Xplay6 with an SNR of 122dB, dynamic range of 120dB, distortion of -111dB, and output power of 2.2VRms.
The solution has twice the output amplitude as ordinary phones. In subjective acoustic evaluations it has shown better resolution and thrust, rich details, and strong spatial perception. Moreover, the headphone amplifier utilizes new processing technology to improve power efficiency as well as the overall audio experience.
"Major brands have been taking actions to take in an advantageous position in the market these years. From process innovations in smartphone casings to dual lenses for both front and back cameras, and finally design breakthroughs in appearance, the smartphone industry has entered a new round of technological competition." says Alex Feng, senior vice president of Vivo, "We are set to increase our technology capabilities and bring better products to our consumers. That is how we keep our brand's competitiveness in the long run."
