The event was inaugurated by Shri Sunil Waman Prabhu, Mayor of Mumbai who was the Chief Guest of the event, accompanied by Ms. Kajal Aggarwal, Actor and Brand Ambassador for Giving Back - NGO India 2013; Shreyas Talpade, Actor and Social Welfare Enthusiast; Dr. Kiran Bedi, Chairperson, India Vision Foundation; Shri Ashok Sajjanhar, Secretary, National Foundation for Communal Harmony (Ministry of Home Affairs); Lindsay Levin, Managing Partner, Leaders' Quest and Dame Helen Alexander, Chairman - Board of Directors, UBM Group.
They were also accompanied by Pushpa Aman Singh, Founder and CEO of Guidestar India; Nisha Agarwal, CEO, Oxfam India and Joji George, Managing Director, UBM India.
Kajal Agarwal, the Brand Ambassador for the event said, "As an actor I feel fortunate to have a power to influence general public and their opinion. This in many ways has helped me to create greater awareness about social issues and concerns at varied platforms and amongst different sections of the society." She further added, "I strongly believe film industry has always been actively involved in creating social awareness. I have always been associated with social causes since my childhood; however, working with UBM India's Giving Back - NGO India is one of my first mature experiences in the field of social responsibility."
Dr. Kiran Bedi speaking about the event said, "Each one of us is a NGO at heart and the base for it is volunteerism and a person who seeks solution is a volunteer in himself. We need to create a hub to connect capable, creditable and transparent NGOs with corporates and UBM is one of them."
As part of its commitment to sustainable business, UBM globally, has developed the Community Engagement Series that aims to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, skills, experiences and good governance across the voluntary sector.
The theme of "Giving Back - NGO India 2013" is 'Sustainability' and it aims at enabling NGOs become "self sustainable" as well as support the corporate community to achieve "brand sustainability" through effective understanding and implementation of CSR strategies.
It is important that corporates connect and identify sections and groups that are more relevant to their domain of expertise. A CSR initiative becomes much more powerful when organizations carefully scrutinize their strengths and determine the area where they can contribute in a substantial manner. "Government, Corporates and Civil society/NGOs form three fundamental pillars of our society. However there are tenuous linkages between them. The urging need is to establish better understanding and learning between these groups," said Mr. Ashok Sajjanhar. He further added, "The concern today is the lack of NGO database within and outside our country. Though there are numerous corporates and organizations willing to provide money, the only hurdle is lack of information regarding credible and transparent small NGOs."
According to Joji George, Managing Director, UBM India, "We are very proud as a company to be at the forefront of sustainable business and providing this powerful platform for social change as a part of our CSR initiative. We are certain that over these two days there will be powerful exchange of ideas, dialogue and positive action, to create sustainable business."
The event is a grand success with over 160 exhibiting NGOs and witnessed over 1000 top corporates and conference delegates from all over India.
The event is supported by key partners including Wockhardt Foundation, RE Rogers, Public Interest Registry, PS Bedi, NESCO Group of Companies, Guidestar India, Oxfam India, Leaders Quest and many more who have extended their support for this noble cause.
