Tupperware Brands Calls for Indian Women Professors to Apply for Global Links Programme
MUMBAI, July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
- Applications Open for 12-month Intensive Education and Business Programme in the US for Indian Women Professors
- Joint Programme With US Secretary of State's Office of Global Women's Issues and Rollins College, Florida Looks to Inspire the Development of a New Generation of Women Entrepreneurs in India
Tupperware Brands is expanding its Global Links: Empowering Women through Education & Opportunity programme to India for 2015, aiming to inspire the development of the next generation of Indian women entrepreneurs.
In partnership with Rollins College and the US Secretary of State's Office of Global Women's Issues, the programme is designed to build capacity for women's entrepreneurship in developing and post-conflict countries. Established Indian business or economics women professors, working at universities in India, are encouraged to apply for the 12-month intensive education and business programme focused on social entrepreneurship.
The programme combines classes from a leading US academic institution focused on business fundamentals, a hands-on externship at Tupperware Brands Corporation that includes building technical skills, and on-going mentoring for the chosen Indian business professor.
"The Global Links programme brings to life our global mission to empower women, enable their financial independence and change their lives through opportunity, support and relationships - we call this the Chain of Confidence. Through the 'learn and return' model, we hope to inspire the development of a new generation of women entrepreneurs in India who are focused on social impact," said Rick Goings, Tupperware Brands Chairman and CEO.
The new Global Links scholar from India will begin the programme in the United States in January 2015, for a full calendar year. The application deadline is August 22, 2014. Full application details can be found at http://preservingyourfuture.org/people/global-links.
The first Global Links Scholar from Iraq successfully completed the programme this year. Dr. Amel Abed Mohammed Ali is the head of the Department of Industrial Management at Babylon University. After the 12-month education and business programme in the United States that began in 2012, Dr. Mohammed Ali returned to Iraq where she trained 25 passionate students. Through a partnership with a non-profit, Women for Women International (WFWI), the students have mentored 75 women, many of whom are the sole bread-winner or widows, in business skills at centers in Baghdad and Karbala. Not only has this programme taught the students business fundamentals, it has inspired them to work on business projects that give back to their communities. This year's Global Links programme continues to build on the 'learn and return' model to expand entrepreneurship opportunities for women in India.
"Women's entrepreneurship is an overlooked source of growth and development in India as well as in many other countries. Women are generally under-represented as business leaders and are less likely to engage in formal entrepreneurial activities. Tapping into women's potential for economic participation is critical to the country's continued economic success. The Global Links programme provides an opportunity for the government, civil society, academia, and the private sector to collaborate to enhance and expand opportunities for women entrepreneurs. By working across sectors, we can give future generations of Indian women entrepreneurs the opportunity to become leaders in business and throughout Indian society," said Catherine Russell, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues.
Since the inauguration of the Global Links programme, Rollins College has started the Business and Social Entrepreneurship (BSE) department in the College of Professional Studies that combines practical business knowledge, entrepreneurial skills, and understanding of current economic, political, cultural, and environmental issues.
"Rollins College mission to educate students for global citizenship and responsible leadership is embodied in the Global Links programme, which leverages the power of women through education. Our new courses in social entrepreneurship and sustainability provide even more opportunities for our students, faculty, and staff to make meaningful connections through the Global Links programme," said Dr. Craig McAllaster, Acting President of Rollins College.
