The Morning Star High School in Karur was started in 1960 and is run by Karur Lions Club Charitable Trust. It provides education to children from less privileged sections of society.
Commenting on the installation of solar power system, D Manohar Devadoss, Chief Operating Officer of Technip India Limited's Chennai office, said, "Fossil fuels are used as the main source of energy throughout the world but it is fast depleting and is also a threat to our planet, which is leading to global warming. The world has started looking at alternate sources of energy and our country is endowed with vast solar energy potential, which is a renewable energy yet to be tapped. Keeping this in mind, when the school approached us with a request for installation of solar power grid, we readily agreed to take up the project under our CSR programme to provide a sustainable solution, meeting the energy requirement of the school."
In this system, electricity produced from roof top solar panels is exported to the grid and adjusted against the electricity drawn from the grid for calculating the electricity charges. After the installation of the grid meter by TNEB in August 2017, electricity from solar power is being used by the school on a continuous basis.
Lion N Karuppusamy, Secretary, Morning Star High School, said, "Since the installation of the solar power system, the electricity bill for the school has come down significantly considering the credit given by TNEB for export of surplus power to the grid. We are grateful to TechnipFMC for providing a sustainable and permanent solution to our power requirements."
