Strategy Analytics: Service Robot Sales to reach 34 million by 2022
BOSTON, Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In a series of related reports released by Strategy Analytics, the reality of Service Robots is analyzed. The reports, "Personal Service Robots: From RVCs to Pet Dogs and Beyond" and "Professional Service Robots: Delivery and Logistics Driving Sales", concludes that robots for the home and for business are poised for rapid growth into the next decade. Over the next six years, through 2022, personal service robot sales, which include vacuum cleaner robots and personal companion robots, will grow by 280% and professional service robots such as delivery and cleaning robots will grow by over 600%.
Ville Ukonaho, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics comments, "Personal service robots will account for 99% of all service robots sold in 2016. Over 60% of these are collaborative household robots used for things like cleaning and other household chores. This category of robots will grow at a Cumulative Average Growth Rate (CAGR) of 16% through 2022. Other important categories of personal service robots include companion robots that provide assistance to their owners and Edutainment (Education and Entertainment robots). Combined these two categories of robots will surpass sales of cleaning/chore robots by 2019."
Ken Hyers, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, "Regionally the highest penetration of service robots was highest in North America in 2015 and 2016 as consumers adopted them for vacuuming their floors, mowing their lawns and cleaning their pools. But by 2017 the Asia Pacific region will become the number one region for collaborative robot sales as companies like Xiaomi, Zenbo, Softbank and others target their home markets. By 2022 60% of all service robots will be sold in the Asia Pacific region."
Ville-Petteri Ukonaho adds that "Professional service robots are another growing robot market. These robots, such as Amazon's Kiva, are used for tasks such as sorting and delivering packages, and for a number of other purposes such as surgery in the hospital, cleaning in offices and factories, and for harvesting crops in the field. The biggest limitation on sales of professional service robots are their cost. For instance, medical robotics systems are very expensive and so most are leased by hospitals rather than purchased outright. We estimate that sales of professional service robots will grow at a CAGR of 32% through 2022."
