The shortlist will be the basis for the first round of calls for early interviews scheduled to be held in the third week of January 2016 at the SPJIMR campus in Mumbai.
The SPJIMR admissions team has been processing applications to build the first shortlist after the institute closed the applications forms on December 9, 2015.
Early indicators are that the institute, a top ranked school of management in India, has received applications from a diverse pool of applicants. About 33 per cent of applications received are from women against 32 per cent last year and 26 per cent are from non-engineering students, up from 22 per cent last year. The applicant pool includes applications from graduates in the areas of humanities, medicine, design, fashion technology, architecture, journalism and hotel management, apart from engineering and commerce.
The first shortlist scheduled for the first week of January 2016 will be out even before the scores of CAT or XAT results are known and updated on the admissions forms of applicants but final interview/admission calls will be subject to candidates meeting the minimum cut-offs.
The online admissions forms will be open for two-three days to enable aspirants to put in their scores when CAT results are declared around mid-January and XAT results are declared towards January-end.
Early interviews enable candidates to appear well ahead of the admissions rush and also enable the institute to interview a larger base of candidates for the 240 PGDM seats.
Candidates selected for the interviews in this early round will be informed by e-mail and can also see their updated status on the admissions website at https://spjimr-pgdm.formistry.com/.
Further rounds of interviews are planned in February. The list of places for interviews and the important dates can be viewed at http://www.spjimr.org/pgdm/admissions-dates-fees.aspx.
"We are preparing for a large number of interviews and are eager to meet the applicants," said Prof. Bindu Kulkarni, head of admissions at SPJIMR's PGDM. She said more than 2,500 candidates will be interviewed across four interview locations by two or more faculty members.
Apart from face-to-face interviews, the process also covers a combination of psychometric test along with written communication test.
The selection process assesses not only the intellectual readiness in terms of academics but also emotional readiness, work experience, extra-curricular activities and aptitude for and befitting the institute's mission of value-based leadership.
The entire admissions process will culminate in the month of March 2016, wherein the final merit list will be declared.
SPJIMR's two year MBA programme offers specialisations in Finance, Information Management, Marketing and Operations. The programme is accredited by AICTE, the premier Indian education governing body and the Association of MBAs (AMBA), UK.
Prof. Vasant Sivaraman, Chairperson of PGDM said, "Many exciting initiatives in recent months have made SPJIMR's PGDM an even more compelling proposition. The range of initiatives includes integration of design thinking in the PGDM programme and as a culture in SPJIMR, deepening of the Global Fast Track (GFT) that ensures that every participant has exposure to an international B-School learning experience, the introduction of the minor specialisations and so on. We pride ourselves in creating future leaders and thinkers who have creativity and values."
