As part of these initiatives, SPJIMR held networking meets across four cities earlier this month to enable the PGDM Class of 2018 have an early immersion into the culture, values and spirit of SPJIMR. The incoming batch comprises a diverse group of about 240 candidates who topped the SPJIMR merit list after a rigorous selection process that included two rounds of interviews.
The Class of 2018 is scheduled to be inaugurated with an orientation at the SPJIMR campus auditorium on Tuesday, June 07, 2016. Well ahead of that formal launch, the PGDM leadership held networking sessions in the first week of May at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. More than 150 candidates, including some on the waitlist, met with recent SPJIMR graduates, alumni, faculty members and also had a chance to interact with the Dean, Dr. Ranjan Banerjee, who attended the meets at Delhi and Mumbai.
Dr. Banerjee said, "We are already one of the premier institutes in the country. Our speed of decision-making and faculty cohesion is higher than the other institutes and therefore we will get better faster than anybody else."
The Dean added, "In most premier institutes, you'll find the job you want. Given that there is good gender diversity, you may also find a life partner but SPJIMR stands out as an institute where you are also very likely to find yourself."
All the meets were attended by the PGDM leadership team comprising of PGDM Chairperson, Dr. Vasant Sivaraman; PGDM Associate Programme Head and Chairperson of International Relations, Prof. Malay Krishna and PGDM Associate Programme Head and Head of PGDM Admissions, Prof. Bindu Kulkarni.
Dr. Sivaraman spoke to the attendees on what they might expect during the two year MBA journey, the impact it will likely have on them as individuals and on their careers, and key initiatives of SPJIMR.
Dr. Sivaraman said SPJIMR's PGDM was a programme that has strengthened over the years.
"Continuous strengthening has been an on-going aspect of the PGDM programme architecture. The 'super' seniors (Class of 2016) of the new batch were the first to go as a full class to leading schools in the USA for specialised courses, the 'seniors' of the new batch (Class of 2017) were the first to be able to elect a minor area of specialisation and the Class of 2018 will be the first to learn from world class online courses as preparation before reaching campus," Dr. Sivaraman said.
Among other faculty members who attended the networking meets were Dr. Renuka Kamath, Member of the SPJIMR Governing Body and Chairperson of the Post Graduate Executive Management Programme (PGEMP); Prof. Abbasali Gabula, Deputy Director (External Relations and Administration); Dr. Suranjan Das, Professor in the area of Quantitative Methods and Design Thinking; Prof. Prem Chandrani, Chairperson - International Relations and Head of Department - Finance and Dr. Lata Dhir, who conducts the Personal Growth Lab and is Head of SPJIMR's student counselling and development centre, 'Vishwas'.
Members of the SPJIMR alumni body shared their experiences of the SPJIMR PGDM journey and their learning from the programme and beyond.
The networking meeting is one of several SPJIMR initiatives to connect with the new batch, answer queries or doubts and enable the batch to settle very quickly into what will be a rigorous but enjoyable two years on the SPJIMR campus.
Other initiatives to connect with the batch include Facebook and various social media groups that have been formed to enable conversations, connections that many have made with current participants and a scheme to assign buddies.
