SP Jain School of Global Management Organised 'Leading Digital Transformation', an IT Management Conclave
MUMBAI, February 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
With a view to explore the key ICT trends and assess its impact on the industry sector, enterprises and workforce - SP Jain School of Global Management organised an IT Management Conclave in four cities - Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney. The first event was conducted on February 3, 2017 at the Mumbai campus of SP Jain School of Global Management located at Lower Parel. The event was attended by business leaders, ICT professionals and academia.
The panel represented professionals across leading IT multinationals including Accenture, Microsoft, Facebook, Reliance JIO, Godrej Industries, Mahindra Group, DCB Bank and Xoriant Solutions. Discussions revolved around 2 main themes - Enabling Digital Transformation & Driving Business Advantage with Digital Transformation. As a part of the Conclave, the school also conducted a survey amongst IT leaders and professionals. The survey aimed at understanding the key trends related to digital transformation for 2017 and adoption issues and challenges.
The research findings of the survey were presented by Dr. KN Kumar, Associate Professor and Regional IT Head, Sydney, SP Jain School of Global Management. According to Dr. Karippur, "Organisations need to take advantage of the emerging digital technologies to innovate, differentiate and grow. Enterprises are least ready for this in terms of senior management expertise in digital transformation practices and availability of professionals with digital transformation skills. There is a strong need for industries to partner with business schools and work together to develop leaders and professionals to act as catalysts, speeding up digital transformation and disrupting traditional thinking and business models. The Digital Transformation Industry Research Survey 2017 and IT Management Conclave 2017 undertaken by SP Jain School of Global Management across 4 cities are the right steps in this direction."
Summary of the Key Findings of the Survey - Digital Transformation
- Digital Transformation is the top priority for IT spending in 2017 with investment plans in the areas of Cloud Computing/SaaS, Mobile Computing, Cyber Security and Big Data & Data Analytics.
- The key strategic priorities for digital transformation are to build competitive advantage in the existing businesses and create new business models.
- Preparing for a digital future involves developing digital capabilities where a company's activities, people, culture and governance structure will have to synchronise and be aligned towards a set of digital transformation goals.
- Only 48% of survey participants think there is sufficient government and regulatory support for digital transformation.
- Organisations are least ready in terms of senior management expertise in digital transformation practices and availability of IT professionals with digital transformation skills. Organisational silos, lack of innovative thinking and cultural resistance are some of the key organisational barriers to Digital Transformation.
- The survey identified the top 3 critical business and technical key skills required for digital transformation in India as follows:
· Business skills: Leading change, Innovative mind-set and Business domain skills
· Technical skills: Data Analytics, Design Thinking and Cloud computing/SaaS - In terms of hiring in 2017, it is anticipated that there will be a shortage of IT roles in the field of Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data & Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
- More than 75% agree that business school's graduates are equipped with the right skills for Digital Transformation such as digital technology literacy, dealing with ambiguity, critical thinking and problem solving, business domain skills and global mind-set. It is time to hire more business graduates!
Overall the event was a great success, marked by the appreciation of the audience. It was extremely well received by them as they expressed great interest in exploring the valuable insights related to digital business disruption.
