- Consumer Interest Remains High But Expense of Installing Smart Home Technology Has Yet to Outweigh Benefits

A recent study from the Digital Home Observatory (DHO) at Strategy Analytics (www.strategyanalytics.com) surveying purchase priorities of smart home technology for consumers in the UK, USA and China, found price, ease of use and compatibility to be the top three priorities in all three regions. The importance of design and brand decreased with age.
Taryn Tulay, report author and senior analyst commented, "Many consumers currently refer to smart home technology as 'too expensive' or a 'luxury' not essential to everyday life. While smart home technology will likely cost more than typical home appliances and devices, manufacturers and service providers must validate that cost by offering value added use cases, features and experiences."
Diane O'Neill, Director, User Experience Innovation Practice, added, "Manufacturers and service providers of smart home technology must encourage the purchase of their products / services through increasing awareness and education, while at the same time building consumer confidence in their brand and expertise. While consumers are still of the opinion that the expense of installing and using smart home technology has yet to outweigh the usefulness and necessity of owning it, use of smart home technology will remain low."
