A visionary leader in the social sector, Khan will be responsible for steering the organization and exploring growth opportunities in India and beyond
Sesame Workshop India (SWI), the non-profit educational organization behind the flagship children's series Galli Galli Sim Sim, announced today that Sonali Khan has joined as its incoming Managing Director. In this role, Khan will lead SWI's efforts to build on Galli Galli Sim Sim's success through innovative educational initiatives for young children across India, delivered through mass media and community outreach. Khan succeeds Sashwati Banerjee who has led the organization since its debut in India in 2007.

Khan brings over 20 years of experience in the development and media sectors to SWI. A global advocate for human rights and ending violence against girls and women, Khan most recently served as the Director of Knowledge Creation and Dissemination at Dasra, a leading strategic philanthropy foundation, where her work covered areas including urban sanitation, adolescent girls' rights, democracy and access to justice. Khan previously served as India Country Director for Breakthrough, where she spearheaded large-scale program implementation, numerous multiplatform campaigns promoting gender equity, and global fundraising and partnership development. Khan is a proud recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar (Women's Empowerment Award) from the President of India and she received the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship for her work in ending child marriage in 2016. Khan sits on the board of Plan International.
