The MOBILEPAC unit, a self-contained gas turbine generator, is powered by an FT8® engine supplied by Pratt & Whitney. One FT8 MOBILEPAC unit generates a nominal 25 megawatts of electricity and operates on natural gas or liquid fuel. The complete power package can be quickly shipped by land, air, or sea to anywhere in the world, giving customers the flexibility to rapidly deploy to satisfy short- to mid-term requirements and mitigate emergency situations.
At an event in Bloomfield today, PWPS President Peter Christman will welcome Commissioner Catherine Smith, head of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, and Bloomfield mayor, The Honorable Sydney Schulman. Representation from state government is particularly appropriate today as Governor Malloy has proclaimed October Connecticut. Dream It. Do It.® Manufacturing Month in honor of the state's distinguished 200-year legacy of manufactured products that impacts lives every day in Connecticut and around the world.
"PWPS is a Connecticut-grown company with over fifty years of presence in the state. We are proud to have reached the one hundredth unit milestone during Connecticut's Manufacturing Month," said Christman. "The design ingenuity and quality of the MOBILEPAC product are a testament to Connecticut's technical and manufacturing capability and we are proud to be part of this innovative community."
To celebrate this significant accomplishment, PWPS personnel and distinguished guests are gathering at PWPS' local supplier, Sound Construction & Engineering, who along with parent company, Becon, Inc., are key suppliers for the MOBILEPAC unit. Also joining the milestone observance will be Pratt & Whitney and other key systems and parts vendors from Connecticut and other states that have made the program an international success.
