Open Source India 2015 Takes Open Source to an All New Level
BENGALURU, November 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
The Two-day Show Features 10 Brainstorming Tracks and 16 Hands-on Workshops
It is that time of the year when open source technologists come together to celebrate the spirit of open source, and to create the technology map for the next year. It is time for Open Source India (OSI) 2015. The 12th edition of the show is happening at the NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru and today is the last day of the two-day event.
Despite heavy rainfall, the first day of the show saw a turnout of about 700+ open source practitioners. With 10 tracks of brainstorming talks and 16 hands-on workshops, the show reaffirms the fact that technology evolves best when shared and practised. The first day of the show witnessed interesting discussions on some of the hottest technologies including the cloud, mobile app development, OpenStack, open source and IoT, and kernel development. The audience of developers who attended the 'Mobile App Development' track expressed keen interest in finding out ways of monetising their apps and learning the upcoming 'Tizen' platform. However, the cloud track witnessed traction from both IT decision-makers and the developers' community. As was the case in previous editions of OSI, the 'FOSS for Everyone' track explored how FOSS can reach out beyond its current techie user-profile, to a more general audience.
Hands-on technical workshops have always been an attraction at OSI. It is no different this year. Workshops on 'Software Architecture: Principles, Patterns, and Practices', 'Big Data (What, Why, How)' and 'Click , Create, Bind and Explore - It is Bluemix for you!' proved to be a big hit amongst the audiences.
Speaking about the show, Rahul Chopra, director, editorial, Open Source For You magazine, said, "With every passing year, OSI aims to bridge the gap between the industry and the community. This year, on one hand, we have experts like Karthik Padmanabhan, executive - Cloud Ecosystem Development, Asia Pacific, IBM, and Sandeep Alur, director - Technical Evangelism, Microsoft, to share their insights on the latest in the space of openness. On the other hand, we have an OpenStack Mini Conference, which is driven by the OpenStack community in India. We have also tried to provide the right mix of content to the audience of developers and IT decision-makers on both days. One of the greatest attractions this year will be the 'Success Stories' track, scheduled to happen on the second day of the show. CIOs and CTOs of some of the biggest companies in the country will share their success stories of open source deployments, in this track."
Apart from this, the second day of the show will have talks on web app development, databases, IT infrastructure management and workshops on the cloud, IoT, DevOps Tool Chain, LifeRay 7.0, et al. So we look forward to seeing you at Open Source India 2015.
